- Pure Android build, no extra firmware
- microSD memory expansion
- Touchscreen sometimes unresponsive
- Camera photos lacked proper color mix
The Dell Venue 7 is an entry-level, Android powered seven inch tablet featuring a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 1280 x 800 pixel resolution display, 16GB or 32GB of onboard memory, 2GB of RAM, a 3MP primary camera, and a battery lasting just under 7 hours.
According to reviewers, the Venue 7’s 1280 x 800 IPS display did a good job with HD video and text, but the screen was sometimes unresponsive. CNET said that text on the screen "looked sharp and readable. I did, however, occasionally have swipes and gestures go unrecognized."
The Venue 7 was also able to play most games admirably. According to Forbes, “I also tested some more demanding examples of Android games such as Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger, and both ran perfectly with only the occasional — and marginal — dip in framerate.”
Reviewers found both the front-facing VGA camera and the rear, 3MP camera to be adequate in a pinch, but without frills or particularly good picture quality. According to CNET, both cameras "produced unflatteringly dark, grainy, and fuzzy photos.”
The tablet performed email, messaging and web surfing duties without incident according to reviewers, with Android Central noting, "Bottom line here, the tablet served us well day-to-day.”
Overall, reviewers found it offered an acceptable user experience and performed all basic functions with only minor issues. According to Forbes, "It’s best suited as someone’s first Android device, and a solid option for the children in your life."

The Dell Venue 7 does have some good and some not so good points. In the end, for us, what this comes down to is price. We admit the Venue 7 isn’t our favorite tablet available at the moment, but it does provide a solid value for the price — $150. While we had some general complaints, we also wouldn’t hesitate to offer a recommendation depending on who was doing the asking. Bottom line here, if you are shopping for a tablet and are on a budget, the Venue 7 should be on your short list of tablets to consider.Read full review
