The "1-Minute" Review
The Archos 80 Cobalt is an 8” tablet that offers a 1024x720 resolution and complete capacitive touch screen. Under the hood, the Cobalt runs on a 1.6 GHZ dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It has a microSDHC slot, which can provide an additional 64GB of storage if necessary. Tablets Help notes that, unlike other tablets in its price range, the Cobalt offers a fairly high processing speed which allows the tablet to run Android 4.0 smoothly. It also has complete access to the Google Play store out of box.
Unlike other tablets of its price range, the Cobalt offers a rear and front facing camera. The 2MP rear camera, however, is completely “average” according to Tips4Tab and Android Community notes that it “might not be the best idea to use it as your main shooter.”
One of the major drawbacks for many reviewers is the lack of connectivity. The Cobalt is WiFi only and does not have any mobile broadband connectivity or GPS satellite navigation capabilities. It does, however, come with a basic micro USB connector and headphone jack.
Overall, most reviewers find the Cobalt to be unimpressive. Despite the basic specs, Tips4Tabs notes that its a “nice tab with budgetary price.” On the other hand Android Headlines state that it will be a “struggle to recommend” this tablet.
The Good: Good screen quality, high processing speed, Google Play out of box.
The Bad: Mediocre rear-facing camera quality, lack of connectivity.
