The Home Hub isn’t perfect, but it does offer a slick and polished user experience. The great thing about the Home Hub is that it takes away some of the awkwardness and frustration of interacting with the Google Assistant in that you can navigate via the touchscreen display to an extent. The integration with Google Photos turns it into the perfect photo frame, and it’s great for casual consumption of video or audio content and perfect for accessing the Google Assistant and controlling your smart home devices.

Good Gear Guide

A different kind of a smart TV

Even if you’re a smart speaker nut, the Google Home Hub really isn’t a must-have. It does something that the regular Google Home can’t do, but it isn’t a game-changer. However, that being said, if you’re the kind of person who find this new direction for the category to be a compelling...More

Even if you’re a smart speaker nut, the Google Home Hub really isn’t a must-have. It does something that the regular Google Home can’t do, but it isn’t a game-changer. However, that being said, if you’re the kind of person who find this new direction for the category to be a compelling one and Google Photos is your cloud of choice, there’s enough going on here for it to sell itself as a good secondary smart speaker or a substitute for your existing Google Home Mini.

The Home Hub is such a great digital photo frame, the smart speaker and voice control stuff feels more like a bonus.

While Ambient EQ makes this the best digital photo frame ever, there’s little else to the Home Hub that makes it possible to recommend over other smart displays on the market, making it a lower value product overall. At a lower price it certainly would be an excellent no-frills option for those that want smart display functionality in their homes, but as of this writing, it’s just priced too high for what it lacks.

Truthfully, it’s a Home with a display. When you ignore the latter, you’re looking at another smart speaker. So it depends on the desire for a visual as well. Google Assistant’s always performed above expectations with voice alone, but now you get more insight. The digital assistant does its part; however, the rest of the Home Hub’s software could use a boost. More third-party services, to be exact.

Android Authority

The perfect kitchen companion

from Android Authority

The Google Home Hub provides excellent value at just $149, as long as you’re already a big user of Google’s services. The introduction of a display makes Home more useful than ever before, but I still found some lingering issues getting my smart home setup just the way I want it.

The new hub of your smart home

from Pocket-lint

If you've got compatible smart home products installed, the Google Home Hub is totally worth its cover price – and absent of any unwanted video calls/privacy issues. But if you're already invested in Amazon then it might not make sense for you. Otherwise it's the perfect addition to any smart home.

However, because it’s made like a digital photo frame, it won’t be for everyone. If you already have a smart speaker or two in your life and you get how they work, the Google Home Hub probably isn’t for you. For folks who have already had the Kool-Aid and get the point of the smart home, this doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table. But new smart home buyers will totally get this, and it will even make their family photos stand out in a whole new way, too. Worth checking out if you’re new to the smart home, for sure.

The smart speaker is even more versatile with a screen

The Google Home Hub is a really useful product that can be integrated into your life to make things easier, to keep your content within easy reach, control your smart devices, access information and know what's going on in the world. Not many devices can claim they can do that.
