A dramatic improvement

from TrustedReviews

Better-looking, louder and clearer than the previous generation, the Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) is a vast improvement over its predecessor and it even costs the same. It's the ideal smart home companion for placing all around your home.

A really neat little device for the price

The third generation Echo Dot is definitely improved in terms of design and sound. The sound is still not great overall for music but is perfectly fine for Alexa or things like podcasts and audiobooks. And you can always connect it to a better set of speakers.

Bigger, better, and much louder

from Android Central

Personally, I'm excited to see which company makes a big battery enclosure for this so it can be portable. That worked really well for the last generation.

A tiny marvel that gives you all of Alexa's capabilities

And we like the Sandstone Fabric colour that we were sent for review: it looks good on a white window sill or wooden shelf. It sounds pretty good, too, for its small size and if you want to later on you can buy the Echo Sub and improve audio quality to a level where it's perfectly usable for music.

Amazon did the obvious thing here: the old Dot sounded like crap, and the number one thing smart speakers are used for is to listen to music, so improving the sound quality was the right move. And when you factor in the Dot’s price, which will likely dip even lower during holiday promotions, it’s hard to find fault with Amazon’s new entry-level Echo speaker.

The best kind of upgrade

from Expert Reviews

Like the Kindle before it, Amazon has taken a great product that didn’t really need improving, and somehow made it better in every way. It looks classier and it sounds significantly better, with all the same perks that made the original Dot such a compelling product.

Cnet

It looks better, it sounds better and it still costs $50

from Cnet

The new Echo Dot looks and sounds better than ever, and now you can pair two together for stereo audio. The ongoing space race between Alexa and Google Assistant means it'll keep getting a steady stream of new features. Best of all: It's still just $50.

Amazon's new Echo Dot is an upgrade on the previous model, but the new Echo Input takes away some of its potential purchasers.

Better speaker by design

from Tom's Guide

Overall, the all-new Echo Dot has the potential to fix one of the biggest (in my opinion) flaws of the previous Dot. It also improves upon its speakers and hardware, while keeping the same price that we know and love.
