They're a $159 experiment that doesn't live up to the hype.

Google’s shot at the future of earphones is admirable, but misses the mark.

Droid Life

A tough sell

from Droid Life

The combination of the high price ($159), somewhat confusing Assistant experience, lack of simultaneous connected device support, and the fact that they aren’t really made for getting sweaty as hell, would steer me in other directions.

Android Central

A decent proof of concept

The sound quality is good. Google Assistant is extremely quick, though the overall value here will depend on your affinity for talking to technology.

Good but not great

from finder.com.au

If you adore all things Google then the Pixel Buds will do fine as wireless headphones for your Pixel 2, but the physical design introduces issues that can irritate, and the translation feature isn't that great.

Bluetooth earbuds are a missed opportunity

from The Guardian

The Google Pixel Buds are an interesting but flawed set of wireless earbuds. The smart features, battery life and sound are good, but the volume control is poor and we’ve moved past the need for a cable to connect wireless earbuds.

The Wirecutter

Good, but not the best

from The Wirecutter

Overall, if you like the design of the Pixel Buds and want wireless and unsealed earbuds, these headphones are fine. But for $160, we had been hoping for something more than that.

Mobile Syrup

A decidedly average experience

from Mobile Syrup

Google's Pixel Buds are decent headphones, but to some extent feel unfinished. The overarching concept is commendable and there are novel ideas present in the earbuds, especially in terms of how adjustable they are and the way the Pixel Buds meet my specific taste in wireless headphones.

Android Authority

Not the best sounding, the best designed, nor are they the best priced

from Android Authority

If you are an avid Assistant user, I highly recommend the Buds. They will make the Assistant experience better while managing to be decent media headphones. They also work well for calls, since the microphone has to be good enough for voice dictation anyway.

More frustrating and irritating to use than many of their rivals

from Recombu

Google’s Pixel Buds are the same cost as Apple’s AirPods and massively more expensive than other wireless earbuds. And as much as we like the sound quality and battery life, we’re frankly baffled at some of the serious shortcomings that make them impossible to recommend.

Hiding its excellent software in a hardware product we can’t recommend

from Tech Advisor

The Pixel Buds are a curious failure. They have one of the most joyfully genius features of the last few years in their real-time translation, but that is totally contradicted by their ugly, pain-inducing design and the fact it's already a feature hidden in the Google Translate app that you don't need the headphones to access.

May or may not fit you well

from Canadian Reviewer

Pixel Buds are the best implementation of a smart assistant and A.I. on a device that's not a smart speaker and the potential here is tremendous. Pixel Buds still feel a little undercooked as a competitor to Apple's AirPods. The case and cord are inelegant, and some users will have an issue with fit and comfort.
