Absolute quickest way to make your home smarter

from Business Insider

If you just need a speaker, you're probably fine with a cheaper Echo. But if you want to get started building a smarter home, the Echo Plus is a great place to start. Even if you push the boundaries of the easy-setup options, it's still compatible with the whole wide world of Alexa-compatible smart home gear.

If you do want to get into the smart home thing, spend the extra $50 for the Echo Plus. It'll likely make things easier for you down the road when it comes to connected accessories.

Makes it very easy to get smart gadgets up and running in your home

from The Verge

It’s a little too simple to recommend, and if you’re interested in starting out with a smart home system, you’re better off buying the less expensive second-generation Echo and a dedicated smart home hub, which will give you all of the same voice control with lots of room to expand in the future.

Alexa has never sounded so good

from Alphr

The Amazon Echo Plus is worth buying for the improved sound quality alone. It’s vastly better than the original, and although it does lag a little behind the best Bluetooth speakers at this price, it's more than adequate as a kitchen or study speaker.

Sounds better, but it’s not a huge step forward

from Engadget

The Echo Plus is a minor upgrade over the original Echo, with slightly better sound. But its much-touted smart hub feature is pretty limited, and it's not a significant improvement overall for existing Echo owners.

SlashGear

Alexa is as capable as ever

from SlashGear

Amazon’s argument for the Echo Plus is that setting up the smart home can be time-consuming and needlessly complex, a tangle of hubs and interfaces just to get each thing talking to the other. That’s not untrue, though there remain benefits from doing it that way. The Echo Plus supports the basics via Alexa voice control, but anybody wanting more granular control will find the app woefully slim.

Doesn't quite add up

from Cnet

The Echo Plus keeps the original Echo's design (and its beloved volume ring) while adding in an aux-out jack, a Zigbee radio to control smart home devices, and an incremental boost in sound quality. The Alexa app isn't the fully capable smart home control center that the Echo Plus needs it to be, at least not yet.
