With plenty of features and video recording modes, the Sony HDR-AS200V actually turns out to be a good deal for a midranger. The video quality can be bland depending on the environment but the low price is nothing but good news for first-time action cam owners who like trying out various features.

Surprisingly easy to use as long as you stick to the basics, presenting great value to the action camera newbie. Utilizing the more advanced features like WiFi and Live streaming may take a bit more menu diving but for the most part, the other features and accessories for just RM1599 more than make up for it. Those looking for a 4K video capable action cam should probably look elsewhere but if it is just ultra smooth full HD, then the HDR-AS200V should be more than enough to satisfy most needs.

Best Action Camera

Sony HDR-AS200V is one of the best action cameras by far regarding quality vs price. I don’t understand why other companies don’t image stabilization. It is a huge plus for Sony. The AS200V has also got all the other useful features such as WiFi, GPS and a waterproof case.

A chore to operate

A superb camera, with beautiful video and stills. Rare features such as digital image stabilization and wind-noise reduction improve quality. But its interface is temperamental beast, especially compared to rivals such as the GoPro Hero 4 Silver.

It’s a great combination of price, size, weight, features, and most importantly video quality. Battery life is great, and video quality is on par with the higher end Sony 4K camera (although it lacks the 4K capabilities). We thought the video quality was also slightly better than the Go Pro, and the sound was much clearer. It’s relatively small and low profile, and works well on the helmet or monopod. It was relatively easy to use out of the box, but the software could use a bit of help. Overall, it’s a great camera for skiers, and to us it’s the best option out there for those who don’t need 4k or other high end video formats.

It’s a great cam for snowboarders. The only thing missing is resolution higher than 1080p but it’s still the cam I’d like to use when I snowboard.

For all it’s worth, the Sony HDR-AS200V/W Action Cam is definitely a great buy, especially in this price range.
