DCRainmaker

A fantastic camera for capturing data along with your video

from DCRainmaker
If you want to produce videos with various dashboard metrics overlaid on it – like power, speed, pace, acceleration, etc… For this, the Garmin VIRB X/XE rocks. They’ve taken all of the quirks of the original VIRB and really cleaned them up, and the desktop software is just super easy to use and produces really pretty videos (but I find the phone app flaky)... Singletracks

Can do what no other POV can

from Singletracks
An extremely sophisticated piece of equipment with a user-friendly interface so that you can capture the action without a lot of fiddling around with buttons. I know many of you will be comparing this either to the GoPro Hero 3+ or 4, or to the previous VIRB cameras, and honestly it all comes down to what you want in a POV camera. The VIRB is a powerful, easy-to-use tool steeped in features, but at the expense of video quality and inconsistent metering... Full review

The XE is a solid performer and you won't be disappointed with the quality

from TechRadar
The Virb XE will appeal to outdoor enthusiasts who want to capture the action and check out speed and other related data. Integration with other Garmin devices such as heart monitors takes a while to setup but once done the added information is of real interest... Full review

Garmin’s versatile Virb XE is as advanced or as simple as you want it to be

from Digital Trends

We found the Garmin Virb XE to have more functions than that average shooter will use. It does classic time-lapse images, shoots up-close candid stills, and rolls 1080p high-definition video at 60 frames a second. With thoughtful design, intuitive button layout, and easy to understand menus, Garmin has removed most of the overhead normally involved with operating action cams. Video professionals may want some of the custom functionality and higher resolution options found on a GoPro, but for those of us who want to strap on a camera, flip a switch, and record a little video on the fly (with... Cyclist

Great quality footage, lots of stats

from Cyclist
The footage that the camera produces is excellent, and remarkably smooth. The wide-angle lens takes a little bit of getting used to coming from an iPhone but you quickly get an idea of what’s in the frame. Because the Virb XE has inbuilt GPS receivers and accelerometers, it is able to capture G-Metrix and, using the Garmin edit software, can overlay them on the video... Full review
Bicycling

Collects a wealth of data

from Bicycling
A seemingly unlimited number of accessories, sensors, and mounts compatible with the VIRB made mounting it almost anywhere—and using it with other data collection devices—a hassle-free experience. Capturing high-res movies with the flip of a switch couldn’t be easier. And, if you’ve ever created a video, you will instantly find the VIRB edit software intuitive and more than satisfactory for creating and exporting captured ride videos—with data and set to your favorite tunes—an efficient and fun experience... What Wearable Tech

Camera sent from the heavens

from What Wearable Tech

Garmin have definitely stepped up their game with the Garmin VIRB XE. This camera not only includes 1080p video at 60fps, but lets you take 12 megapixel images, has an incredible waterproof capacity of up to 50 meters without a case and can be effortlessly controlled using wrist worn devices such as the Garmin fenix 3 and Garmin Vivoactive through ANT+ connectivity.

Furthermore, the XE is compatible with all GoPro mounts giving you a wide variety of mounts to choose from, and includes internal fog screens to stop the hydrophobic lens from fogging up when you’re taking shot... Full review

TrustedReviews

Another capable action camera

from TrustedReviews
Although the action camera market is becoming increasingly crowded, Garmin has managed to produce an extreme sports camcorder with enough novel features to make it worth considering. The lack of a 4K shooting option is a shame, but otherwise there are some excellent resolution and frame-rate choices available, handy manual settings, sensor connectivity and good image quality. There's also a cheaper VIRB X to consider, but that loses the 1440p and higher frame-rate video options, so the XE is worth the extra £80... Full review

It's extremely rugged, easy to operate and just plain bad-ass looking

from Tom's Guide
There is so much to love about the Garmin Virb XE. It's extremely rugged, easy to operate and just plain bad-ass looking. The mobile remote-control app is one of the best out there. The ability to incorporate and overlay rich data is not only novel but, once you've seen it, looks likely to be the way that all the best action cams will go in the future... Full review
Titanium Geek

More user friendly than the GoPro

from Titanium Geek
The biggest challenger is the GoPro Sessions. It's just a better sensor – BUT – and this is the biggest BUT – the Garmin VIRB XE just works. If you set up the WiFi network, it's connected straight away. Want to take a photo mid activity, press the button. Want to check a setting, glance at the screen. Want to start videoing? Throw the great big toggle switch. Want to change a setting and not get your phone out, easy... Full review
