Digital Versus

New and flippin' improved

from Digital Versus

Apart from the battery life, which is still pretty short, JBL has paid attention to criticism from users: the Flip 2 is a real improvement on the first version, both in how it handles and its audio performance. This is a powerful, precise portable speaker, provided you're not a big fan of bass.

Coolsmartphone

Good sound quality, easy to carry around

from Coolsmartphone

Overall the sound quality is good. It’s light and easy to carry around and the battery level indicator is a welcomed added extra. Yes, it’s the small things that make a difference. You can get one from JBL directly or there are other retailers that will stock it locally too.

AV Product Reviews

Small but mighty

from AV Product Reviews

The JBL Flip 2 is one of the best bargains in mini-bluetooth speakers right now. It’s easy to transport and has great sound quality for its size. The only major complaint we have with this little speaker is that its battery life could be a little longer. Other than that, currently its at the top of our list of recommended mini-bluetooth speakers.

Tom's Guide

An affordable, portable Bluetooth speaker that gets plenty loud

from Tom's Guide

With its included speakerphone, the $100 JBL Flip 2 is a good value for those who don't want to dish out $200 for a premium Bluetooth speaker. Limited battery life makes the Flip 2 less portable, though, and if audio quality matters to you, there are plenty of other options. For example, the $150 JBL Charge offers better bass and resonance, while the company's $50 Clip — which also includes a speakerphone — represents an even better deal. But if you want plenty of volume for an affordable price, the Flip 2 is an attractive option.

What Hi-Fi

Good performer for the money, but isn’t a fully rounded package

from What Hi-Fi

The JBL Flip 2 has made some positive improvements to its predecessor, but it’s still not perfect.

To earn five stars, it needs more substantial bass kick and, of course, there’s the significant problem with its battery life.

A highly praised four stars it is, then, for the JBL Flip 2.

Sound Guys

Sounds great for its size and is a fantastic value

from Sound Guys

At a price of just $99, it’s easy to recommend the JBL Flip 2 to anyone looking for a compact Bluetooth speaker. I had heard good things about this speaker and the original Flip, and I was still surprised at how good this speaker sounds, especially given its small size. The only downside is the relatively short battery life, but if you can manage with around 5 hours, this speaker provides fantastic value.

Cnet

Top portable speaker takes it up a notch

from Cnet

My only real gripe with the Flip 2 is its middling battery life. Otherwise, the tweaks to the design, slightly improved sound, and the ability charge via USB are nice upgrades over the original.

This speaker does cost a little more at $129.99 (the original Flip sells for less than $100), but relatively speaking, it remains a decent value, especially if you can pick it up at a slightly discounted price. The Flip 2 has its limitations, but the fact that it can play as big as it does (and sound fairly decent) for a small, highly portable speaker, makes it easy to recommend.
