It's a solid option for keeping your iPhone powered on the go

from Laptop Magazine
At $79.95, the Mophie Juice Pack Air runs neck and neck with the Case-Mate iPhone 3G/3GS Fuel, in both price and performance. Some may prefer the Case-Mate’s sturdier design, which includes a holster, but we recommend the Juice Pack Air for its low profile, which makes it convenient to keep this charger attached at all times.  .. A must have product for iPhone 3G owners

from SlashGear

We’ve taken several of Mophie’s previous-gen cases along with us to CES and other shows, and they’ve proved life-savers for keeping the iPhone 3G running despite heavy use. With the Juice Pack Air, Mophie have answered most of our criticisms, particularly when it comes to protecting the edges of the iPhone, and limiting bulk. We’d still like to see some sort of touchscreen protection added, and the glossy outer casing feels cheap and is more slippery to hold than previous versions, but generally this is a must-have product for any standard iPhone 3G user. Works well both as a protective case and as a supplemental battery

from CNET

The Juice Pack Air looks identical to the original Juice Pack, with one addition: the top portion of the phone is now covered, giving the iPhone complete protection. The "air" in the name refers to Mophie's contention that the new case is thinner; however, with dimensions of 4.9 inches tall by 2.59 inches wide by 0.75 inch thick, the new case is not much smaller than the original. Also, it adds about 20 percent more weight to the phone, which is slightly lighter than the original Juice Pack. Aesthetically, the new Juice Pack is a better-looking case than the original... Not only is it a reserve battery pack, but it's also a hard cover for your iPhone 3G

from CrunchGear

If you’re looking for gobs of extra battery life then you needn’t look here. When my iPhone 3G’s battery dipped under 10 percent I placed it into the air and got enough juice to hit the 85 to 90 percent mark. As I recall, the original Juice Pack managed to give me close to two full charges when battery life was under 20 percent. But that had an 1800 mAh battery while the air only has a 1200 mAh battery. If you don’t care about such things and just want something that looks pretty, fits in your pocket, adds a bit of protection and offers emergency power then the air i... Full review

My friend was kind enough to lend me his mophie for my travels. it's low profile but strangely adds enough bulk to be uncomfortable. It weighed down my jeans - not to mention it got hot when it was using the pack. During my European travels i ended up throwing it in my bag and use it when needed. Still a lifesaver at times when you don't speak french (french/english translator app) or using the iphone to navigate in a country without a physical map (gps=total battery killer). also no way to charge the pack using an iphone connector - uses a micro usb - so make that another cable to lose. My suggestion? Get the iphone 4 - better battery life. or just keep the iphone 3G/3GS charged at all times. Less

Charges fine and it's nice to have more battery life, but there are a few complaints. The biggest is the cap. I have broken 2 now. I don't consider myself especially hard on the phone and charger, but this piece is very fragile. They are $5 to replace, but $7 to ship. That is not good product support in my opinion. It also gets pretty hot when charging the iPhone. A couple of times my iPhone has shut down because of the heat generated when I am outside by the pool or in the garage. It's not a big problem when its cool or I'm indoors. The micro USB is also a pain. I'm not sure why they chose to use this over just a regualr USB as there is nothing universal about it. I have drawer full of regualr USB cables, but had to buy 2 new micro USBs for the car and the office. All in all its a good product, but not everything it could be. Hopefully they will read all the reviews before designing the next one. It seems we all ahve had similar complaints. Less

I use my iphone constantly and am always running it down. I did not spend time investigating but I should have. What member of the society of sadistic engineers thought they could make a case with a different charging connection requiring still another cable? Maybe the connector is proprietary to Apple? I hope so-at least that provides some logic to this otherwise totally illogical decision. I have an Apple charger in the car, one in my briefcase-and one in my office just to make sure I am never far away. None of them work now-unless I take off the case-or buy a whole new set of cables. Beyond that-I see no discernible difference in charging time. I still run down by mid afternoon. Not worth it. Going back. Anyone that has an iPhone knows that the battery is not that great, especially if you use it to make calls, run applications etc. I didn't want to purchase a bulky battery pack that would be cumbersome when I carried around my phone. This product was exactly what I was looking for. I can use my phone and when I notice the battery starting to drain I simply flick the switch on the juice pack to start charging the phone back up and then I can switch it off. You do not just want to leave the juice pack on to always charge the phone when it has a full charge as this will drain the juice pack more quickly then if you just use it when you notice that you need it. Mine died at 18 months, used properly according to directions. No damage, no abuse. It was out of warranty, they would not replace. I understand the warranty was one year, but many companies will repair or replace a product well after the warranty period. Not Mophie. My Valentine One radar detector is 10 or 12 years old and works flawlessly, this $100.00 battery crapped out at 18 months. I liked it when it worked, I am totally unimpressed with Mophie customer service. Bose has given me free repairs and free parts replacements on my aviation headset LONG after the warranty expired. So Bose has me as a customer for life, and Mophie will never see another nickel from me. That's what you call penny wise and pound foolish. To be fair, they did offer to sell me a new one for an unspecified discount, which I have thus far declined. Less

But sure enough, the second one had the same problem less than a year later. I don't know why they used a super-mini usb adapter anyways. They should've just used the standard USB mini. Anyways, it's overprice, poorly designed, and the battery life of the thing is not that great. I see no reason in buying one of these versus one of the other, cheaper, better, battery packs... Less

I'll preface this by saying 1)- I usually buy "everything" I can through Amazon- (Who's Better?- and this is my FIRST review here) but I needed a new charge for my iPhone a bit over a year back, so I grabbed the"older" (pre-Air) Juice Pack at the airport store in SFO. That Mophie got me through almost 3 days of judicious use before I made it back. Little by little my original model had all the usual little issues others complained of- side skins getting loose and the "coating" wearing off on corners. Still it was true love! As my one year was about up, I figured- why not test the warranty; I sent along an email to Mophie, with just a couple of photos; told them the place I bought it and a general copy of an AMEX larger charge for many items from that store- but no actual receipt! The very _next_ morning I got a note back from Mophie, saying "Thanks! No need for more documentation" And since they had run out of my model they offered to send me the newest and latest "Air" model AND my choice of accessories (charger or cases) to try to make things right. I was honestly Blown Away! (FWIW- I got the RED model with the "soft" finish (fabulous!) and the dual wall/car charger- They arrived (free) in two days! Now I have the chance to buy another Mophie to fit the new iPhone. The Mophie is as fine a product (from FINE folks) as I've ever owned! Less

First, the positive. I mostly like the design. While it does make the iPhone heavier and thicker, that's not a major problem in practice. It's easy to hold. Even with the added bulk, it fits easily in pants pockets. In addition, popping it on and off the phone is quick enough that its use doesn't have to be an all or nothing deal. The one design issue that I really dislike is the use of the micro USB connector. This makes it unusable with standard iPhone accessories, like car stereo adapters, that use iPhone dock connectors. I appreciate the attempt to give the iPhone a more standard connector, but in a world that has already adapted to iPhone dock connections with a huge array of accessories, this is actually more of a problem. And this is hardly more standard in my house. This is not a mini USB connector. It's a micro USB connector. It's the only device I own with this particular connector. That means even more cables need to be lying around. I was aware of this before purchasing, but the added battery power outweighed this inconvenience for me. Now for the real problem. I wish I paid attention this in other reviews. The Juice Pack is just unreliable at holding a charge. It will, randomly, completely lose its charge. For a few weeks now, I've been careful to check each morning before unplugging it to see what the charge indicator shows, just to make sure it has been connected over night. It will show a full charge. Minutes later it may show anywhere from a partial discharge to fully discharged. Wondering if there was somehow a problem with my phone, I tried the experiment with no phone attached. I see exactly the same behavior. When it works, it's great; I get a few more hours, but never double the iphone's internal battery as claimed. When traveling and away from a power source for extended periods, I need additional battery power, so I'm still using it for now. Some days it does its job. Other days it doesn't. I wouldn't purchase this again. I'd try another one of the battery packs out there. Less

Because I bought it away from home I wasn't able to return it to find out if the one I bought is defective or if they're all this way. I feel like I was duped. Less
