It was around this time a year ago when we first heard about the HTC Touch HD. While it may have been the closest thing HTC had to a real iPhone-killer during the time, Americans and Canadians were unfortunately left out on all the fun as it was never released in the North American region. Fast-forward to the present, we’ve now gotten word that a successor to this controversial device is apparently in the works already.

HTC Touch HD 2 on AndroidAptly named the HTC Touch HD 2, Reg Hardware reports that this new touchscreen phone will now be running on the Android platform unlike its predecessor which had Windows Mobile as its OS. Aside from that, it will also now sport a faster 628MHz Qualcomm processor at the helm. It may not be as fast as the 1GHz Snapdragon processor found on the HTC Leo, but it’s certainly a welcome improvement from the 528MHz processor bundled with the HTC Touch HD. As far as its display is concerned, we hear that it’s still basically the same 3.8-inch 480x800 touchscreen being used.

That’s all we have for now, and admittedly, there’s still a lot left to be known about this new Touch HD phone. When will it be released? How much will it cost? Will it finally be available in the US/Canada? Will it also come with HTC Sense UI? These are just some of the questions were looking forward to being answered in the coming months, and rest assured, we’ll be reporting them to you guys ASAP once we get a hold of them.
