While almost every company reported bleak returns towards the end of 2008, Carphone Warehouse is fortunate and proud of gaining 13% in retail sales to just over £1 billion which is equivalent to $1.48 billion in US currency.

Likewise, connections and subscriptions were also up by 3% each to 3.7M and 1.3M respectively. This could be attributed to increased consumer spending over the holiday season and no doubt partly due to the undeniable appeal of a brand-new mobile phone. However, despite ending 2008 on a positive note, Carphone Warehouse officials expect that it’ll be hard to maintain the impressive figures especially with the global economic crisis coming into full effect this 2009.

For what it’s worth, this just goes to show that the mobile phone industry isn’t nearing any sort of recession anytime soon with the exception of Motorola of course.
