I’ll be the first to admit that we were a bit skeptical when we heard the news that Kogan would release an Android phone in Australia before the year ends. Though technically they aren’t releasing any Android phones this year, they are, however, accepting pre-orders for their two new Android based phones: the Agora and Agora Pro. Orders will begin shipping towards the end of January next year.

The Agora features a 2.5-inch 320x240 touchscreen, back lit QWERTY keypad, 3G connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD card slot and a price tag of just AU$299 or roughly $192 in US currency. The Agora Pro adds a 2-megapixel camera, GPS, and WiFi to the package and retails for AU$399 or $256. Do remember that this is an unsubsidized cost unlike the G1’s price which is already subsidized courtesy of T-Mobile. I guess they can indeed keep a promise. The Kogan device looks similar to the Samsung Jack but we won’t fault them for their lack of originality in terms of design if they can deliver the goods this fast.

Safe to say, our Aussie friends down under will soon be enjoying the Android life courtesy of Kogan. Great job, mate!
