While jailbreaks have consistently been coming out, we have yet to see an iPhone 3G unlock released by the hardworking phones of the iPhone Dev. However, we've received word that might give potential iPhone owners who don't want to be tied down to a particular network some glimmer of hope as the team is nearing completion of an iPhone 3G baseband unlock.

With the inevitable release of this new iPhone hacking software, iPhone users can easily switch to other networks. No word on when it will be released, but we're hoping it won't be too long. Besides, even with the availability of the said 3G baseband unlock app, it probably won't affect the sales of AT&T and others that much since present policy restricts iPhone activation to in-stores only. Nevertheless, this will be great news for those wanting to do more with their iPhone than what their present carrier is capable of giving them.
