So it’s finally official and on the dot as well. With a slight change to its name, the Samsung M8800 is now legit with the Pixon name in lieu of the Bresson title we reported earlier.

So what does the M8800 have to offer us? It’s got a 3.2-inch 400x240 touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera with a host of imaging features such as face recognition, smile detection, triband HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, DivX playback and an accelerometer.

The only downside is that it runs on a proprietary OS, lacks WiFi and traditional keypad . It does, however, feature the TouchWiz interface found in the Omnia. The side-by-side comparison with the Omnia shows that the M8800 is a bit smaller, and the back has a more camera-look to it. Here’s a promotional video of the Samsung M8800.

It’s expected to start shipping in November with a price of 550 Euro, roughly $800 in the US. No specific dates and regions were given as to its availability. I guess things are really heating up in the 8-megapixel mobile phone category. I wonder what Nokia and company has in store for us in this segment of the market?
