Instagram Rivals Vine with 15-Second Videos
Key points
- Instagram announced that it now has 130 million active users, who have uploaded more than 16 billion photos and liked photos 1 billion times.
- Vine, which allows users to post 8-second video clips, has 13 million users.
- In recent weeks, Facebook, which bought Instagram for $1 billion in April 2012, added hashtags, another feature made popular by Twitter.
Facebook announced the introduction of video support for Instagram. Instagram now allows users to record 15-second videos, choose from 15 filters, and post them within the main feed. The video recording feature is similar to Twitter’s Vine video sharing app, although, unlike Vine, Instagram videos won’t loop the video on an endless basis. Instagram has also added world class image stabilisation feature called Cinema. The updated Instagram app will be available for both Android and iOS starting today.
