What's good

  • Clear, dynamic sound profile
  • Collapsible design
  • Two audio jacks for shared music listening

What's bad

  • Might be too large for petite heads
  • Noticeable ear fatigue after long term listening

The V-Moda Crossfade M-100 is unique in that it was crowdsourced using feedback from DJs, producers and the company's online community. This direct interaction with their target market shaped the sound and features available on these headphones.

The most notable addition is its ability to collapse the ear cups inside the headband for storage, made possible by patented solution called CliqFold Hinge. Experts mention that the new design allows for better portability though also mention that it is very easy to get your fingers trapped in the folding mechanism. It also now comes with two audio jacks, which allows users to attach their cable to either side and share music via another pair of headphones.

Design-wise, the M-100 features the diamond shaped ear cup plates, a steel frame and plastic ear cups. Reviewers were impressed with its overall durability noting that it was made to handle 6 foot drops and rough handling. In terms of comfort, while this model is lighter than its direct competitor, the Beats Studio, experts found it much more uncomfortable as the ear cups tend to graze against the ears, causing ear fatigue. What Hi Fi also mentions that, "While they grip your head confidently, those with petite head size may find them a bit too large…"

As with all headphones, sound quality is the number one consideration and experts are happy to find that the M-100 delivers on that front. As with its predecessors, it offers a bass heavy experience; however critics describe the actual sound quality as clean and detailed when comparing to previous iterations. Trusted Reviews states, "Even at high volumes, the bass is powerful but there's no sign of rattling or distortion." Besides listening to music, it also comes with a mic for answering phone calls.

In general, reviewers recommend the M-100 to users who want a little more bass in their listening experience. About.com audio expert says, "If you're a bass lover who also likes clear, dynamic sound profile that's warm and not muddy, you can't go wrong…" Gizmag adds, "Overall…these are a very capable pair of performance headphones."
