Digital Versus

Not enough to compete

from Digital Versus

The Sony Reader PRS-T series may be a reference for some, but very little has changed over the past three generations. As for the optional cover with the light, it's just a clip-on reading lamp that doesn't illuminate the screen as uniformly as an actual built-in frontlight system would. The PRS-...More

As for the optional cover with the light, it's just a clip-on reading lamp that doesn't illuminate the screen as uniformly as an actual built-in frontlight system would. The PRS-T3 costs more than its frontlit competitors, but doesn't offer much that Kobo and Amazon's e-readers don't already.

Good E-Reader

It really maintains the same sort of visual allure as prior models and is easy to hold with one hand

from Good E-Reader

In the end, I am personally a big fan of the PRS-T3S. It really maintains the same sort of visual allure as prior models and is easy to hold with one hand. I love the fact Sony listened to their customers and made a cheaper model that did not rely on you having a bulky case permanently attached to it. It is one small thing, but makes a world of difference if you are reading on this hours a day...

The Sony PRS-T3S lacks a front-light, North American customers are used to all major brands offering a few e-readers with one built into it. If you look at the Paperwhite 2, Kobo Aura, Nook Glowlight 2, their main selling points are that you can read them in the dark. The Sony case with built in light does not evenly distribute it across the screen and is unfeasible for reading for an hour a night.

PC Pro

A good-looking ebook reader, with attractive features

from PC Pro

The Sony PRS-T3 is a sleek, attractive ebook reader, which delivers good access to a range of EPUB format titles, and has a few enticing extras. However, it’s marred by its lack of a built-in light and unresponsive touchscreen. At only £10 more, we’d choose the Paperwhite every time.

Good E-Reader

This reader is also perfect who just want to read and don’t need a ton of distractions with games, lights and all the other gobbledegook

from Good E-Reader

The Sony PRS-T3 really feels like the company isn’t even trying anymore. They are using hardware internals that e-Readers in early 2012 were using and haven’t really updated it in any significant way. Considering the new Nook, Paperwhite and Kobo Aura are using cutting edge technology, this feels sluggish in comparison.
