This wasn't my main phone, but I purchased it just to sign up with Fido, and use the service/SIM in another unlocked PDA. I used the T290a on occasions where I didn't want to risk damage to my more expensive phone, such as playing sports. The SE T290a was a great little phone for that purpose. It's durable, super-compact, and easy to use. It's even survived cross-country skiing in the pocket of my sweat-drenched windshell jacket in -10 celcius! The screen may be sluggish with low-resolution, but it's a low-end, 'beater' phone, so one cannot expect too much! Battery life was a good 3 days, and the charger was excellent, unlike some of the earlier complaints posted on this site. Less

Perfect Phone for Me

It doesn't have a bunch of bells and whistles, which is perfect for me. I've had those phones that have all kinds of cool features...and, I never used them. This phone is perfect for someone that just needs a cell phone and nothing else. Sturdy little phone (I've dropped it quite a few times already). It's a great buy for $19.99! The only problem I have is the buttons are pretty close to each other, but not a big deal. Less

Cingular is a rip off. I only wanted this phone for emergencies. I get charged a dollar a day. I get charged for checking messages. Good plain phone!

My boyfriend has the black version (got it a year or more back and he's only using it NOW so it's still pretty new.)Of course it has been discontinued for a while now but I thought I'd still review it. PROS: The menu is very easy to navigate. I love Ericssons for this one reason! My new phone is also an Ericsson. I loved the options it came with like: the sticky note that would stay on the front screen as a reminder, being able to set my own time, having the "Thurs Sept 25" show date option, and very easy lock keys. The casing is also very sturdy, small and light enough. It's a very pleasing shape and has nothing sticking out of it. After a lot of use I did crack my screen though.. but I also dropped it plenty of times! At the time it was a very affordable and good looking phone. CONS: The keys were very small. I have small fingers but I never liked sending txt msgs on this phone since the little rubber keys would make my fingers sore in no time. They're not as easy to press as other phones. The terrible charger. Oh how I hated the prongs! I would have to be careful when I would put the charger in the phone..or else I'd bend the prongs.... The phone also had a hard time recognizing that the charger was in . I had purchased a new phone after a couple of yrs because it started to freeze up. I would get a white screen and it would take several restarts to get it running again. OVERALL: Great phone without all the whistles. It was a really good phone for my prepaid plan since I was trying to save money but also wanted a good looking phone. Less

durable, dependable

First, my wife used it for about a year. She kept it loose in the bottom of her purse (and you know what it's like in there). Then, I took it over and wore it on my belt for another year. It's still going strong and showing no signs of age. Great phone. Durable. Dependable. No bells and whistles, but it gets the job done.

Horrible phone

Overall I have had 3 different sets of the T290/T230 and to be honest with you, I have never wanted to throw a cellphone at a brick wall in my life until I had this phone. The charger is horrible and sometimes the phone just stops working for me. I have had no water damage the set just stops working. The idea was simple and promising but overall it failed miserably because it was poorly made. I would never recommend this phone to anyone and if you have this phone currently the best thing you can do is watch it get run over by a truck. Less

Pro: Lightweight | Small and compact design | Excellent battery life Con: Horrible display | 'Microwave'-style buttons | No camera built-in | Web browser sluggish | Very little memory Using experience: 7 months I've owned this Sony Ericsson for a little over seven months now and have come to see the plusses and minuses. Kudos to Sony Ericsson for the lightweight design and durability. It's very compact and easy to hold. But on that high note, I must leave you, as we go into all the cons. Sony Ericsson is usually well-known for their high-quality phone displays - but this one was apparently left out in the cold. The screen is completely eye-soaring to look at. You can actually see each pixel as it appears that there is a teeny-tiny-tad bit of space in-between each pixel. All-in-all just painful to look at. Next, the buttons are sort of those kind that don't make a 'click' when you push them - rather a 'squish'. They are rubber buttons that don't hold easily - my number '5' button and the up-arrow button do not work anymore. Nextly, there is obviously no camera built-in - but Sony Ericsson does allow a purchased-separately camera to be connected at the bottom of the phone - the camera costs on-average about $20 give-or-take. The web browser is horrible to navigate through due to the tiny display and is sluggish as well. I had difficulties loggin-in to Yahoo and several other mail clients and could not see FoxNews, CNN, AOL, etc. very well at all.] Off the top of my head, the amount of memory slips my mind but I know the number is very small - after about 100 text messages saved in your phone [inbox AND sent folder] a message will pop-up that says 'Memory full'. And there is no room for expansion either. All-in-all this is a compact and lightweight phone for people who basically want to make calls and text's here-and-there. I would not recommend it for any other than that. Less

The go phone is 25 cents per minute and is a bit spendy unless you just use it in the car. So I do like the service plan, I don't have to write a check. I have had 4 Ericsson phones and this one is the best so far, it has a good strong speaker phone and holds a charge very well. The Bad News. Cingular purchased At&t and forced me to purchase a new phone. Not cool, but i had a t259a with the same parts and accessories so that worked out. Some times i plug this in and it doesn't charge so i have to mess with the charger coord. Also i need a camera and this doesn't have one built in. I tried to get a 3rd party usb cable and never could get one to work. I need to try the ericsson flavored c-11. Less

T-mobile has the worst customer services. Sometimes, It is the company's mistake and they still blame it on the customer. Since I started my plan, I had a problem reciving my bill on time. So, the company start charging me $5 late fee for four consecutive months. Also, when I tried adding additional features such as their text-message-bundle, the change on the account did not take effect till two days later, and I was charged for 10 cents for each message I used in these two days, and It costed me an additional $4. Every time I tried complaining to their customer services, they just wouldn't listen. I am starting to get the feeling that they are just trying to maximize their profit. More than once, if I stay long-enough on the line, they put me on mute so they don't have to listen to my complaining. I feeling that I am being treated like dirt not like a customer. I had the worst customer-services experience with t-mobile. Also, the reception is not the best in the country. I had friends who were using the same phone as the one I have but different network, and they were getting services in places where I don't have it, and they pay about the same amount of money. Less

Good things: - great reception (I can use it even on NYC subways sometimes) - really simple - great volume - small - well-designed menus and easy to lock keys Bad things: - slow button response - I can type way faster than this thing can register - HORRIBLE CHARGER - this might be the reason NOT to get this phone. First, it uses a crazy non-standard charger, so you're screwed if it breaks since you can't get a cheap replacement and have to pay at least $20 at a Cingular store. Second, the charger has little prongs that go in - it is realy hard to pull out straight. There is a trick to getting it out, you have to tilt the charger piece at an angle from your phone. Unfortunately, it is extremely counterintuitive to do that and there are no instructions to tell you that that's what you gotta do. I broke one charger before I found out this "trick". Third, the charger at some point will mysteriously stop charging your phone. It only starts charging again if you hold the charger end into your phone at a specific angle. It is extremely annoying. After a while, even the specific angle thing will no longer work. I am about to get a third charger for it. The idea behind this phone was excellent - small, compact, easy, down to earth phone that's good at being a phone. Unfortunately, it was extremely poorly manufactured. It sucks, because I can almost see it being great. If it were only 5% better, it would be an excellent phone! Less
