Wired

Offers a capable "everything but the kitchen sink" feature list

from Wired
If consistently crisp and vibrant pictures are what you’re salivating for then the C905a probably won’t fit the bill. But if you actually want to do something with your photos and video on the fly — Facebook posts, geotagged Flickr pics, YouTube vids, whatever — then the C905a makes for a fairly decent pocket companion for the price... Phone Scoop

It is more like a camera with a feature phone attached to it

from Phone Scoop
The Sony Ericsson C905a is more like a camera with a feature phone attached to it than the other way around. In other words, if you're big on having a solid camera with you at all times and less concerned with having an actual phone, the C905a is going to make you happy. If other features are your priority, however, you might want to read Phone Scoop's full report before betting on the C905a... Full review

I got this phone very recently but did not find this phone so marvelous as it is advertised. First, as I got this phone with a contract with ATNT, it came preloaded with all JUNK applications that cannot be deleted. They consume about half the memory space of your phone. Second, it does not have wifi, so you cannot use internet without a data plan. Third, it does not use a regular type of memory card, Sony Ericsson phones use a typical memory card. Because of this reason I am unable to use my 8GB Sandisk Memory Card. Fourth, I compared the photos taken in 8mp. from this phone with the 3.2mp. Nokia phones, there is comparatively little difference. Also, the photos taken with 16x Zoom, were very blurred and unclear. Fifty, this phone is bulky and heavy. I purchased a pouch for this phone, but AMAZON sent me a regular pouch that is fit for Nokia 5800, I am carrying this phone after very tightly thrusting it. Sixth, you cannot play any games on this phone, only demo modes are possible. ATNT wants us to purchase the game. Actually there are 6 games. This is my personal experience with this phone. I am not trying to discourage somebody else from purchasing this phone. I know that people are more prone to negative sides rather than the positive. Those descriptions listed above have been experimented by me and fully experienced. Otherwise, this is one step lower than SMART PHONE because it does not have full keyboard and wifi. I am quite satisfied with the basis operations of this phone. The best function of this phone is that we can take clear movie even in the perfect darkness with the lights on. Eventually, what I have found is that this phone has been crippled by ATNT because most of the programs have been disabled or directed towards ATNT's pay sites. It is an average type of phone. Again I reiterate, though this phone boasts 8mp camera, pictures are clear in the camera but are not when printed or transferred into your computer. They are equal to any other 3.2mp. Nokia phones(I compared with NOKIA phones). Less

If you buy this phone, have confidence and go to [...] and purchase their debranding package! I initially had my doubts about "bricking" my phone, but it went super smooth and had no issues. I got this because it is 1 of only 2 current Sony Ericsson phones currently available that will sync with my MacBook. I was going to buy the c510a, but it did not have wifi. Okay, the phone. It works well and is pretty clear. The debranded options are nice, like chat-style (threaded) texts are awesome! The camera works great and you can send pics (via wifi) to your blog, or facebook, or snapfish. I use MobileMe and I can send via email to my gallery, can send via email to Facebook too. The downloadable app for Facebook is not too special at all. I go to my iPod Touch (sans SIM iPhone 2g) for that. FYI, IMAP email works just fine with GMAIL and sent emails showed up appropriately, but don't know about yahoo or such, don't use em anymore. I could get the inbox of my mobileme to push emails, but I could not send emails through it. I only have a 200 message plan ($5/mo) and am getting close to it like never before. Despite going from an iPhone 2g (couldn't afford data plan anymore so I took out SIM and turned it into iPod Touch with a mic and camera), the T9 texting feature really works well. I have clumsy thumbs and still do pretty well. it will never match a qwerty keypad/screen, but it does really well. I like the style that SE has over LG or Samsung for texting with the basic keypads. The quality is really good. I have been getting used to the menus and can adjust pretty quickly. It is not going to replace a nice little digital camera with optical zoom. BUT, if you are looking for a decent camera and don't want to add another gadget to your pocket, go for this one. I was wanting a camera smaller than my wife's older 5MP cam, but didn't want to spend the $200+. It compares pretty closely for random pics of our daughter and dog. Her cam is more for still shots of stuff she posts to Etsy and such. I did make a "dummy" media net account just to save myself from those moments when I move from wifi and forget to turn off my email app or something. That is very easy, and I never knew about it before researching this phone. I made a dummy account on my wife's phone and spread the word to all of my friends/family that might be interested. Even if you do not debrand this phone, you should make a "dummy" account to replace Media Net connection if you do not plan to pay for that feature. You will get nickled and dimed by accidental connects with the center button being the media net quick connect key. I think they put it there to force folks into a data plan to avoid paying big bills for accidental connects. They already force data or messaging plans on the basic touch and qwerty phones (non-smart phones). In the past 6 months, my wife has racked up about $30 in accidental connects. Sine I dummied her phone last month, not a single data charge since. This allows you to avoid data connects, BUT STILL SEND/GET MMS. If you block data on your line, it will block mms too. This review is more about my experience than the features. I went this route because you can read all over about the features, but you might want to know how they are used or how one LOVES the debranded benefits. :-) Less

Great camera but horrible battery life

The camera is really good, but you have to charge it EVERY day! I forgot to do it yesterday and now am going to miss an important call because the battery is dead. This is really inconvenient.

This is the Sony Ericsson C905a cell phone by AT&T. Fantastic phone and camera. Easy to use and solid. Excellent clarity and sound quality. This phone includes all AT&T's features that are basically available. However, I mainly purchased this phone for the camera features. I don't believe there is another phone available that can include the quality and features of this camera. It includes up to 8.1 megapixels, 16x digital zoom, face detection, image stabilization, self-portrait mirror, flash system, and video capability. You owe it to yourself to check out all the specifications and reviews available on the internet. Could use some better detailed explanations on a few of the features, but nothing serious. I would recommend an 8GB or larger memory card to allow for your photos and music, but 4GB will suffice. AT&T has been excellent and purchasing this phone from Amazon for only a penny just can't be beat. Less

I have had this phone for over a month now. I was always looking for an all in one device that does everything well... Unfortunately, such a device does not exist. I would ideally like to have music player, phone, internet device and camera at all times. Now, this isn't going to replace your camera (if you know you're gonna be taking pics... i.e. going on vacation) but for those times when you don't have one but kinda wish you did, well you're in luck. It takes decent photos, has useable flash, but no optical zoom (fine by me) I had already ordered the phone (no data plan required for "subsidy") even before finding out about the disabled features. The most interesting feature of course was the wifi. I had some skepticism, but after having "debranded" the phone, i can verify that yes, it does work, and yes, it is really easy. Aside from wifi, getting rid of all the AT&T medianet and all that garbage in the menu was also nice. Some additional camera menus became available as well as ability to use mp3s as ringtones. Overall, very happy with the phone. My only regret is that the phone does not have a QWERTY keyboard... I text a lot... or i used to.. now when i get texts.. i just sigh and try to put off replying for as long as possible Pros: Decent size, not too big, not too small. Camera lens cover/slider Excellent screen, great resolution and brightness I can take at the worst halfway decent pics anywhere I go Good call sound quality Cons: What the heck is with this M2DUO garbage, i have so many micro sd cards already... NO HEADPHONES INCLUDED also you HAVE TO USE a proprietary jack... which also seems to enable FM radio... (i don't care about the radio) Prepare to spend the extra dough for the M2DUO card (this is like a must), and the headphone (seems to come with 3.5mm adapter) and be prepared to send very boring texts. But, you will get wifi without having to pay for data, a decent camera (excellent by phone standards) and an overall very attractive well built phone Less

I was in the market for a new phone & read the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this one, so bought one. I can't honestly say I'm happy with what I got. There's some bugs that are really annoying. My previous phone was a Sony Ericsson 580i with ATT service, which was really good. I could get 5 bar reception anywhere, even in basements of hefty buildings. This C905a phone has serious reception problems. I guess they skimped somewhere in the antenna or receiver, nonetheless, reception drops constantly, even if I'm outside. I live in the heart of Silicon Valley, not out in the sticks, so I shouldn't be having this problem. I travel by train daily up & down the valley & there's bad reception where ever I go. Can't blame ATT because my other phone worked perfect, & I see all the folks with Iphones on the train having no reception problems at all. Another problem I have is, while the phone is supposed to multitask, I cannot be on the internet & make a phone call at the same time. If I try, my net connection terminates immediately. So much for the company's claims. Another problem is the battery life. If I get on the net, the battery will last about 1.5 hours, and it gets so hot it concerns me that the phone will melt. You may have read the battery cover is hard to remove. That's a gross understatement. With the directions right in front of me, it took an hour of constant sliding pressure before it began to move. Come on, Sony-E, do you really think that's reasonable? For those of you who have these phones, I discovered I could slip the blade of a pocket knife under the edge of the cover & pry the sucker off quickly, which I discovered when the phone's OS froze in net mode & I couldn't even terminate it with the power off switch, & the phone reached somewhere around 130 degrees. I then had to pop the battery out while the power was on as my last chance to stop phone Armageddon. In other words, this phone can be a safety hazard. Other phone features are good & I really like them. The user interface is very intuitive & you can figure everything out very quickly. It has the same layout as the 580i. But heck, the problems of this phone spoil anything else good about it. Don't buy it. Thumbs down! Less

I wanted a phone that could sync my gmail, google calendar and contacts, has a GPS/AGPS, has Wifi and doesn't require a data plan. Well after all the research this is the one I got. I must say that I am not disappointed. This phone does it all. You can browse internet while you are on your couch away from your computer using Wifi. The synchronization feature works great with google email, contacts and calendar. One thing you need to do to unleash Wifi is debrand this phone (you can google it for instructions). I did it using A2uploader. It is very very easy but if you still think it is not your thing you can pay money and get it done through DaVinci. There are other good reviews here that tell a lot about other features on this phone so I don't need to write it all here but again if you want google, Wifi, GPS and no data plan this is your phone (8.1 MP camera is of course a plus :-) FYI, you will most likely buy memory stick M2 with this product. So add the cost of that on top of it. Less
