Samsung has put together another nice phone for the budget minded consumer with an eye out for 3G. The SGH-A737 handles media well, especially music, thanks to its A2DP stereo Bluetooth connectivity. Like so many of Samsung's other sliders, the mechanism is top notch, conveying the feel of a quality device. Sound quality is rather good as well. At the time of writing, AT&T is offering the phone for $25 with rebate and a two year contract. At this price the camera hardly seems a major complaint when so much else is done so well, and is concealed in such a tidy, compact exterior. With only the few mentioned caveats, this phone earns my rating of "Recommended."

I've had this phone for about 2yrs. Its an awesome phone it has alot of features on it. MP3, cell video, camera, video recorder, xm radio, u can even record audio or video up to 5 min. I do recommend buying an SD card for the music.I have not had any problems with the battery life I can go up to 2 to 3 days without charging before the batt. starts to blink. I have dropped this phone on more than one occasion and its very durable no scratches. It has a 'lock & unlock' safety feature it ask you if u want to lock it yes or no, if you take too long or forget it automatically locks it. That prevents any buttons or media to be activated if its in ur pocket. The sound quality is good u can set recorded audio as a ringtone or alarm. Although when it is on silent mode the vibration is hard to feel or hear. It lets you set the round key pad to the settings you want like txt msg, calendar, alarms, its fast short cut keys make it convenient instead of navigating thru the menu. Another cool feature that I really didn't like at first was the 'side menu' function on the side of the phone. I did learn that if you're talking on the phone u can hit that button to text, web, access the music player, or games, without having to hang up. It's nice feature you can talk and text at the same time. The camera takes good pictures in a well lighted area. I have used the camcorder and u can landscape the image. Sending pics is no problem, receiving some pics is frustrating you have to 'open' the file to view it others u can view right away. The only con I found is the echoing of background noise you can hear everything going on in the background and its hard to hear the person talking. Another thing I dislike is if you have a missed call, text, or voicemail, it has the same alert tone. So you can't distinguish the difference. Otherwise, it is a great phone with alot of options. I have never seen this issue mentioned anywhere on the internet, which is amazing to me, considering the handicap the music player in this phone imposes on you. Once you've started a track and paused it, to hide the player or take a call or whatever, you have to keep it in music player mode to keep your spot. If you return to normal mode for too long, leave the phone open for too long, or stay on a call for too long, the music player turns off and you have to start from the beginning of the track. When it comes to live sets, podcasts and audiobooks this is an absolute nightmare, alleviated only slightly by the player's ability to jump to a specific track time, provided you memorize the time at which you've paused the track every time you do so. If you choose to hide the player, therefore, it had better be for only a short time, and you can't do anything with the phone but play music without hiding the player. It's dumb, and there's nothing you can do about it. So there, those two or three other people issuing one fruitless google search after another have something to click on and be subsequently disappointed by. ALSO! - There is a strange error in which the track is restarted over and over with tracks longer than 30 mins once you've passed a certain point and paused. - You have to edit the tags of all mp3s before loading them so that the actual song name is precluded by its corresponding track number (i.e. "If I Survive" needs to become something like "02 If I Survive" if you want it played in the right order). - When the battery is low the music player is disabled. - It features Samsung's infuriating proprietary port that prevents you from charging and listening at the same time. As a side note, none of these issues occur in Sony's Walkman Phone line, but each features an even more flawed proprietary charger/headset port whose tendency to become loose or just break make this phone, I'm sad to say, a superior music phone. I've had this phone for over a year now - it will be 2 years in December. At first the phone was great I didn't have to charge it much at all. The battery life is decent, not amazing but it was my favorite phone. I've been pretty careful with it around, but I dropped it once while I was standing up - a decent distance from the ground. It was perfectly fine for about a month, then all of a sudden my phone wouldn't function right. I'm not sure if it's because I dropped the phone - I won't lie it might be because of it. But all of a sudden, when I close my phone there is no display anymore. In order for me to know whose calling me, I have to leave my phone open all the time. I charge my phone pretty much every night and sometimes while it's charging, it will just stop. There's a certain way I have to plug it in, I've never had problems with it before which struck me as odd. The reception is really odd most of the time. Sometimes my calls don't go through and take me to voice mail when the other person's phone is on. And my phone says there is no service, when I know there is because I have made calls before. For example, in my room I always get full service, and yet sometimes when I make calls they never go through. Also getting reception was very hard to find in places where it should be easy. It just goes haywire and tells me there is no reception. I know the whole process of getting signal to a cell phone, but it shouldn't be on and off. But overall the phone has been great to me. but now I have to tough it out until my plan expires until I can get a new one. It's pretty bulky though. There's always a buldge when I place it in my pocket. The camera is decent, but the sound quality is pretty horrible. Less

I have had this phone for over a year. So believe me when I say this is the best "non-smartphone" out there. If you're looking for a phone that is easy to use and looks good, then this is the phone you need. The slider is also a plus. I have dropped this phone countless times, and would have expected it to tear up by now. (My phones usually don't last more than one year). But this one has stood the test of time! My husband also has this same phone in orange, and he is rougher with his phones than me. His also has never given him any trouble and is still working great. Love this phone! Less

I love the feel of this phone - I like a substantial feeling phone and this one works great for me without being bulky. The battery has been fine, although, I'm not a big texter nor do I use it for email or the internet, so I can't comment on how long it would last if those areas were utilized. I may have to charge it every 3-4 days and that's only if I keep it turned on. I also haven't had any problem with fingerprints. All in all, I'm loving this phone. Less

This is a pretty good phione for someone with a need for just a plain old phone. You can text, call, no dir right? You can take pictures and record sound and videos, too!! It takes about two and a half hours to charge, and the battery will let you talk for about five hours, and you can leave it alone for about 9-10 days. I usually charge mine every other day. One time, my friend dropped mine at a basketball game, and the microphone went out!! The back comes off if you drop it, but it restarts fast. I wish I knew that on the camera's factory settings, you can't zoom in until you change the size to 800x600. You have some frames, and you can ann effects and 'icons' to photos, too. Be careful if you want to set a picture for your background, you need a bit of soace around the edges of the photo. Overall, this is a pretty good phone. Less

This phone, without a doubt, is the single most worthless and frustrating cellphone I have every owned. I've had it for a year now - waiting for my next upgrade option with AT&T - but I simply cannot continue to use this horrendous phone. I'm willing to pay the full price on another cellphone than be forced to use the A737 for any longer. What is wrong with this phone? Here is a list: * The keypad is too small. You will mis-dial or mis-text when using it. * There is no one button camera operation. * The camera has HORRIBLE resolution - practically worthless * There are NO games pre-loaded, as are in many other models. * Call reception is horrible - there is a distinct echo and the caller's voice sounds metallic * The screen's backlight will engage when any button is pushed - which, if you keep the phone in your pocket, will happen so often the battery will die very quickly * The battery has a very short life - you will have to keep a charger handy (in the car, at home and the office) In all, this is an over-priced, over-hyped piece of trash build by Samsung who, usually, builds quality products. Do yourself a favor - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PHONE!!! Less
