What the Critics Are Saying...

PC Magazine

Throughout the course of my testing, I kept finding myself thinking, why isn't this phone free? The Illusion has the makings of an excellent entry-level smartphone, the kind you get for free with a two-year contract. While it's a solid starter device, there are too many other good options on Verizon...

- Alex Colon, PC Magazine
PhoneArena

We were pleased with the call quality on the Samsung Illusion, as voices sounded clear and natural on both ends, and there wasn’t any background noise or static.

- FAUguy, PhoneArena
Cnet

The Samsung Illusion is a decent little Android Gingerbread phone that won't cost an arm and a leg. Every aspect, from the design to the hardware features to the call quality, works relatively as it should. However, while there are few surprises, there's also little to set the Illusion apart from it...

Overall, the Samsung Illusion is a compact and capable smartphone that has a budget-friendly price of $79. The 3.5” display is on the small-side, but still works well, and we appreciate the 1GHz processor that makes the device feel snappy. Still, for $20 more, there is the Samsung Stratosphere. Not only is it 4G LTE, but has a 4” Super AMOLED Plus WVGA display, a 5MP auto-focus camera with flash, and a sliding QWERTY keyboard.

The Samsung Illusion is a decent little Android Gingerbread phone that won't cost an arm and a leg. Every aspect, from the design to the hardware features to the call quality, works relatively as it should. However, while there are few surprises, there's also little to set the Illusion apart from its midtier peers. Drawbacks do exist in places like the camera software and the hollow tone I hear when placing calls and speaking, but for me those more negative traits alone won't spoil the soup.
