Clearly Samsung understands that the cell phone market is not all about high-end, feature-rich smartphones. Many customers just want a basic, reliable phone, and that’s what they’ll get with the HUE.
A dual-band CDMA clamshell, the Samsung HUE has a distinctive red and silver two-tone exterior, complimented with a vertical display, similar to the LG 8700. This external display shows the date, time, signal strength, battery life and caller ID. The charger port/headset jack and volume rocker is on the left spine and the microSD slot and camera shutter are on the right. For the record, the volume rocker remains on the bottom half when the phone is open, making is easy to adjust.
Inside the HUE will be familiar to many, with a traditional keyboard layout and a navigation array consisting of a circular toggle with the OK button in the center. The navigation array is set above the keyboard proper, making excellent use of space and minimizing the possibility of errors. The 2.12 inch internal screen is a 220x176 pixel display able to produce 262K colors.
While the HUE does support Bluetooth and has a speakerphone, the feature set is otherwise entry-level, including an address book with a 500 contact capacity, alarm, calculator and world clock, unit converter, stopwatch and tip calculator. Talk time is rated at 3.2 hours and a stand by time of 22 days.
The HUE will allow you to make good quality calls, text, MMS, email, and provide a rudimentary web experience. Overall it is a good looking, reliable, entry-level phone for folks looking for a simple device.
