Looking for decent smartphone with a 4-inch screen that will last for a full day of moderate to heavy use? You might consider the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate. It's a mid-range Android device with decent specs and all the latest wireless connectivity features. As a added bonus, it uses an eco-friendly casing. The question is, is this the most worthy selection?
Design-wise, the Exhilarate is pretty boring. It looks a lot like many other Galaxy-branded smartphones that were released before it, and there’s no easy way to tell that it comes in an eco-friendly casing. It is based on the ever-dependable candybar form factor and weighs 130 grams. It's not compact by any means but it is fairly easy to grip because of its 12mm thick profile. Also, the presence of soft-touch buttons below its 4-inch 480x800 touchscreen display makes life easier for users in navigating Android.
Things are rather disappointing for the Exhilarate on the software front. It comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-installed and there is no indication that it will get an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, much less Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It supports plenty of official and third-party applications that can be downloaded easily through Google Play. But just the fact that it’s seemingly stuck with an older version of the Android software won’t leave too many users happy.
