Reviews summary

6.3/10AVG.
RATING
Based on 22 reviews

A full-color flip phone and digital camera with a swivelling screen and a tiny built-in flash. What sets the a600 apart from entry-level camphones is its display, which not only swivels and folds with the display exposed but also features 65,000-color high resolution, and its built-in flash, which is weak compared to a dedicated digicam's flash but makes a difference in dim lighting. The swivelling high-resolution display makes taking pictures faster and easier than with most camphones, but users who are rough with their mobile, or use their phone under harsh conditions, will probably find a way to damage it.

In most other respects, the a600 is the equivalent of a middle- or high-end mobile handset, with good audio, average battery life, support for Java games and downloaded ringtones and images, a 300-entry phonebook, and an ergonomic, highly-tactile keypad. Potential users should note that, while the a600 supports SMS and EMS messaging, MMS multimedia messaging is not supported. Similarly, unlike many better flip phones, the a600 does not have an external LCD for checking the time or incoming caller ID. Instead, it features a futuristic-looking LED indicator -- a design choice of style over functionality that some users will not be pleased with.

Crippled to the max

I've had this phone since september 2004, so its been around 2 and a half years now (Telus). Going on a 3-year contract was the biggest mistake ever, shouldn't have done that. The phone is okay, but as the title says, it's crippled by Telus to the MAX, you know what I mean. You can compare it to the same model running on GSM (SGH-P400), which has a 40-poly ringtone, games, the ability to transfer ringtones or pics, etc., whereas this one has a pathetic 16-poly ringer (although it has a flash). You also have to transfer it to pc by e-mailing it everytime, which costs 50 cents each time, waste of both time and money. And now my screen is messed up and can't see anything on it because it's been put in vibration mode for too long, interfering its inner compartments according to a salesperson. Would have been an okay phone if it wasn't as crippled. The reception has been fine though, just that its functionalities are too limited then they are supposed to be. Less

I bought the phone when it first arrived at the Best Buy by my house and I had it ever since the only problem the it ever had (that only thing that stoped it from being perfect) was the swivel head, had to get it fixed more than enough times but the tech. from the store, after 3 times he decided to put some silicone glue on the screw that held the top head of the phone. That fixed it till the end when I had to change because the battery would not turn on any more evevn when fully charged. just remember I had it for many years, dont remember how long exactly but for sure "more" than 4 1/2 years and I used it a lot...beautiful phone Less

i got this phone almost 2 years ago... I LOVE it. Possibly because I am more about astetic value than practicality but as long as it calls people, I am happy. And it's a pretty phone no matter how old it gets, it still looks like a new phone. The only problem I have, is I lost mine (dropped it at a concert) and I really want a new one, but they are discontinued and on ebay all I can find are sprint and bell (which I believe are the same company just canadian vs. states). anyways my point is... IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE PHONE, care to give it up to someone who'll enjoy it better? Im willing to pay something for it even if the shape isn't all great. Im with telus by the way preferable one from telus I would like. lvathje@aim.com Less

I don't understand why there is no lcd display on the outside of it. I got it because i found the flip screen was neat and the rotating camera was neat too. Although, there is no use for them. Overall i am not satisfied but it isn't that bad of a phone. Less

I was just tired of the LG after having it for so long so I upgraded and got the Samsung A600. So far, I've used it for a month now. It's too early for me to comment on the durability but it does feel a little flimsy compared to my LG. Here are some pros and cons: PROS: An alarm, camera, large clear screen, easy to follow menues, great reception, decent battery life, clear speaker and receiver. CONS: The phone is bulky and heavier than what's out on the market today. No window display on the external side of the phone - therefore, you need to flip open the phone to see who's calling. No video recording. Less

On My Third Phone and It Still Doesn''t Work Correctly...

I hate this phone and hate Sprint even more. I am into my second replacement for my Samsung A600. That adds up to three phones, of the same model, that don''t work. My current phone that I HAVE to use, is going to be thrown out my window on the 20th floor just so I can have the pleasure of never being able to use it again or have to deal with Sprint and their horrible, uninformed and uneducated customer service staff. I can start the problem areas here: All three phones could not connect to the internet, continually froze between sending receiving, never sent messages to my recipients, often goes back to "compose messege" screen when I hit send which deletes my entire text messege, and doesn''t have an "outbox" for any text messages (Verified by the Sprint specialist who also advised that I get a new model and phone). I have wasted so much time (8 calls @45min-1hr. per call)with Sprint''s Technical Department and it still doesn''t work...but they swore it would be perfect... Sprint also told me that there is bad software on these phones that has to be replaced...mine apparently has been already...now what''s their excuse? Less
