Great all-round performance is what you can expect in one of the most-complete smartphones on the market

You may've thought Nokia lost their touch, you may be out of love with the Nseries but the Nseries are always keeping an eye on you. Their wide-angle, variable aperture eye. On you. Whether the Nokia Nseries are making up the ground lost in the megapixel race or claiming back what they believe is rightfully theirs, they seem to have the right leadership to put them back on the megapixel map....

You may've thought Nokia lost their touch, you may be out of love with the Nseries but the Nseries are always keeping an eye on you. Their wide-angle, variable aperture eye. On you. Whether the Nokia Nseries are making up the ground lost in the megapixel race or claiming back what they believe is rightfully theirs, they seem to have the right leadership to put them back on the megapixel map.

Armed with one of the most advanced cameras in terms of hardware and features you don't just find on every other handset out there, the N86 8MP is keen to take cue from the N85 and shake the Nseries out of their slumber. Now, in case you forgot, it's still the market leader we're talking about here, and that should probably tell why everybody is so worked up.

A great camera saves it from being merely a slightly dull refinement of Nokia smart phones past

The Nokia N86 8MP doesn't break much new ground, but it's a good entry in Nokia's much-loved N series. It's not as easy to use as the iPhone or the HTC Hero, for example, but it really packs in the features, and, if you can find them, there are zillions of fantastic apps out there to make it even better. Best of all, for a phone, it takes excellent photos, with almost no shutter lag. As a top-of-the-line camera phone with all the power of a smart phone, we think the N86 is worth having.

MobileBurn

The most tech possible in the smallest form factor

from MobileBurn

The Nokia N86 8MP is a great handset and a significant improvement in build quality from previous Nokia Nseries sliders. Overall, it seems that Nokia have polished their Nseries devices to a higher standard, cramming the most tech possible into the smallest form factor. However, I feel somewhat underwhelmed. What with the aggressive competition in the marketplace and the amount of innovation on show from competitors, the N86 8MP feels a bit, well, boring really. Sure, it has a great camera and a really nice music player, plus lots of storage and a lovely AMOLED display, but the UI makes it feel dated, even though it is packed with the latest tech.

Overall, I enjoyed using the Nokia N86 8MP and found it a very useful tool for music and photos, because it excels at both. However, the Ovi Store application was painfully slow and didn't have the range of apps that competing stores have, and the web browser wasn't as slick as that of some touchscreen rivals. So, in summary, the N86 is a great handset with plenty of top notch features, but isn't quite as exciting as other, lesser equipped, rivals on the market. However, if you don't need a flashy touchscreen handset and just want something a bit more old-school with a huge list of features and a rock-solid construction, then the Nokia N86 8MP could be the handset for you. Therefore, I give the Nokia N86 8MP a "Highly Recommended" rating, due to its solid feature set and robust build quality....
