What the Critics Are Saying...

It is a truly great looking handset. Well, except for the not so rare moments when it ends up covered with fingerprints.

The question at the end of our Nokia 6500 classic review is whether a seductive look can secure a lenient verdict. It is a truly great looking handset. Well, except for the not so rare moments when it ends up covered with fingerprints. Functionality however is not that much of a leap forward to justify the asking price. If you find the Nokia 6500 classic so hard to resist you might end up buying it. But in all other cases the reasonable decision will be to look elsewhere. For the same price you will buy two Nokia 6300 phones and even save some money for extra memory. Maybe this will change with time and prices will eventually level out. At this stage however, there seem to be very few arguments in favor of purchasing the Nokia 6500 classic. At least one of them though, seems to be a strong enough motivation: looks. And who says all buys should be reasonable? Anyway, the Nokia 6500 classic is on offer and it's your money.

A good choice for somebody that wants to take some music with them

from MobileBurn

The Nokia 6500 Classic has an impressive spec sheet. 1GB of internal storage memory, a 2 megapixel camera, and a very sleek and elegant form factor. It is also very solidly built. Not bad for a company that only very recently started making thin phones.

But like the 6500 Slide that we recently reviewed, the Classic suffers from less than ideal reception abilities - at least on the 1900MHz network we tested it on. When it has a connection, it offers great audio quality, but that dosen't count for much if you can't place a call in the first place. But overall I like the phone. I think it would be a good choice for somebody that wants to take some music with them - as long as they live and work in areas with a good signal...

It is a good phone, just not a great one because of that reception issue. I still give it a "Recommended" rating, with some reservations.
