The Toyota Tercel of cellphones!
Super tough, reliable value for a user who wanted just a basic phone that works every time and refuses to die! Over the past 6.5 years, it must have fallen out of my shirt pocket onto pavement at least 30 times, several drops into snow & slush, fell into sand, been sat on & slept on (240lbs) forgot it in the car 7 hours on -10 or colder weather, been in soaking jacket pockets when caught in rain storm... just keeps forgiving! All my friends fancy, trendy & expensive phones go haywire any time they catch a raindrop or get coughed on! On average they're without a phone at least once every 15 weeks. I've been wanting to dump my Virgin service ever since they sold out on the voucher expiry - but I couldn't risk giving up this workhorse that never lets me down! But the battery will go soon and I'm just about ready to retire it. It's true that it gets hot on long calls, but I never experienced a freeze or shutdown (granted I make very few long calls with the cell...) the outgoing sound quality is not really great but it is loud & clear, as is the earpiece. In short, just gets the job done! I will miss my old friend and can only hope my next phone will last half as long.Less
humming and hawing
I know that they don't sell this phone anymore, but I still wanted to share a bit about it. Okay, it's a really basic phone. Nothing special, like a camera or a mp3. It's extremely durable, though. I've had this phone for 5 years and its never broken down on me (physically) The keyboard is terrible. I have to press down hard to make it "click", and sometimes it double clicks. It is hard to type messages fast. There is dust all over! I can barely see the screen in sunlight. My biggest grief is that I cannot seem to clear my voicemail messages! Someone, if they know how, HELP ME! Virgin Mobile is no help either...Less
The buttons wear out easily so when you punch in a number on the keypad, it either does not work at all......or sends the number more than once. I sent mine from Verizon back in on a warranty, and the new phone does the same thing. Very frustrating!Less
I got this phone with a canadian Virgin plan (which I absolutely love). (1) This phone is INDESTRUCTIBLE! For the 1.5 years that I had it, it's been dropped, drowned, stepped on, had soda spilled on it (that one required some q-tip action and taking the battery out -- but the buttons never got stuck!) (2) The interface. Now, no industry reviews ever mention the interface, but it's pretty important if you use your phone a lot. My husband got a swanky Motorlola RAZR, and it takes navigating through 4 to 5 menus to send one text message. Nokia has been WONDERFUL in creating beautifully simple, idiot-proof menus. Very natural to navigate. (3) This phone comes with minimum features -- so no camera, no mp3 player, no picture messaging -- but this also means that the battery can easily last you four days. Sure, it's a bit bulky and looks kind of "90's", but seriously, when was the last time a cell phone actually weighed your purse down? (4) This phone is made for textin'. Big buttons, clear display, lots of text fits on the screen, excellent smart-text technology. Virgin Mobile also charges you a pittance for texting! It's discontinued now from the Virgin website , but if you see it used for cheap, get it. Chances are its previous owner hasn't come up with ways to damage the bloody thing:DLess
does its job
the good: it works. simple design. clear voice. the bad: the inside display gets dust on it, how do you clean the inside display? back cover can be hard to open.Less
Not satisfied at all
I find this model hard to hear and the visuals hard to see unless you know what buttons to push to get the lights back on. If you maintain constant lighting your battery life is diminshed too quickly and must always have this phone plugged into a charger it seems. My main complaint though is the keypad and the double and triple hits when a single number has been keyed. This makes using the phone to pick up messages and calling electronic centers a nightmare of frustration and the main reason I am researching other models to get rid of this one. Also the body of this model does not keep the phone clean and the Verizon folks warned me about it and pushed a cover to be used. I agree with another reviewer concerning the menus being problematic and not intuitive. The first few times I attempted to retrieve text messages I had to have my manual in hand and this should not be necessary for someone as computer and tech savvy as I am.Less
it is extremely durable,i threw it down the street...and all i had to do was pop the battery back in and it started right up!you can NOT kill this phone.it is reasonably loud and it has really good battery life.i love it!Less
Don't buy this phone
I have had this phone since October and all it has done is cause me problems. It does not get good reception. The phone tends to overheat and die. I can never hold a conversation for more than fifteen minutes without it dying, and that is on a good day. The screen started acting up less than a month after I got it. It does not get good reception in buildings or around Eastern Washington. It worked well in Louisiana and Florida, but nowhere else. I can't wait to get rid of mine.Less
Pretty good overall
Fairly dependable, never lost a call, reception was quite good, but not as good as with some other nokias i've used. Biggest gripe is the keypad, while the big buttons are good, they sometimes missed a press even though the key "clicked", and sometimes they'd double a number when pressed. Really annoying when trying to use automatic services, but otherwise no problems, quick charging and it held a charge for at least a week, if not more.Less
I love my phone, it'svery useful and nice. The battery lasts forever (practically!) or at least a good 175 hours (without using it that much) Things to beware of: * The cover isn't very sturdy, and it btreaks really easily * Very limited functions, use only if you want the bare minimum.Less
