Clearly an entry-level music phone

The Nokia 5220 may have been launched almost a year after the 5310 but its features are similar and it looks as if the Finnish company has just taken a 5310 and given it a different casing. Yes, it does offer good sound quality and its form factor is slim enough to fit into most pockets. However, a lack of innovation makes it a very ordinary mobile phone in a market which is saturated with music oriented mobile phones.

Although the 5310 received a Highly Recommended rating from us last year, the same can't be said about the 5220. A year has passed and there's just not enough innovation in the 5220 to wow us. In fact, I personally prefer the 5310's looks and form factor compared with the asymmetrical shape of the 5220. However, if you find the shape attractive, and you are looking for a low priced, no frills mobile phone to play your music library, the Nokia 5220 should fit the bill and do the job well. Therefore, we award it with a "Recommended" rating.
