The Nokia 5100 is one of the first cellular phones after the Nokia 7210 with very unique features and design. The body/faceplate is made with 100% rubber for durability and to resist water. Many people have complained about the looks of this phone, but you get used to it. I personally like the unique designs Nokia comes up with. The Nokia 5100 is not an exception. The phone was designed for the extreme outdoor phone users therefore is loaded with features that may have not been thought of in the early cell phone days. Features include: Unique two piece one body shell design, a flashlight, speaker phone, 4096 colours on a 128x128 screen, four chord polyphonic ringtones, thermometre, , infra-red, calculator, games, applications, organizer, alarm clock, and the stop watch. Though many of us may not use all these features on a daily basis, but it's good to have just incase. This phone is water resistant, NOT water proof. So don't dump it in a tank with water showing off the phone, you'll fry it. It only blocks out minimal water like rain and sprinkles. The flashlight and the speaker phone placement is on the top of the phone, but it keeps enough water out. If you want to mod your phone a bit, I suggest going to any hoppy shops that sell 1/24 plastic car models that require assembly and look for a mesh. It shouldn't be more than $10CDN. Cut the right size for the speaker opening, and clue it on the inside of the faceplate upon removal. It will withstand a bit more water IF you are really that extreme. Price. Biggest concern to all cell phone users. This phone started at $350 retail from Fido. With the new Fido Agreement (24 month term), you can get it for $100, or Month to Month (3 month term) for $150. Unfortunately the Nokia 5100 is discontinued from Fido. The only source to purchase this phone is either on Ebay or a Fido store that still has some in stock, but will NOT be restocked. Overall, this is a great phone. I enjoy using it over the Siemens S55 and the Sony Ericsson Z200. Signal is superb on this phone, even in basements and Fido's coverage. I'd give it a 9.5/10 myself.
