Samsung announced two new tablets to its Galaxy Tab 3 range, introducing new 8-inch and 10.1-inch models. Both tablets feature Android 4.2 Jelly Bean alongside a TouchWiz skin, a 1280 x 800 resolution display, and dual-core processors. The 8-inch model is powered by a 1.5 GHz Exynos dual-core processor while the 10.1-inch version, according to Reuters, features 1.6 GHz Intel dual-core processor, becoming the first Samsung tablet to include an Intel chip. Pricing should be revealed sooner rather than later as the two new tablets are slated for a global release this June.
What Else You Need To Know
- Three versions of the tablets will be offered, depending on connectivity: Wi-Fi only, a 3G version, and a 4G LTE model.
- The 8-inch option is being pushed packaged to make eReaders redundant as it comes with a "reading mode".
- The slates' Android software is customized with the latest TouchWiz UI and come with Samsung’s usual suite of exclusive apps.
- The 8-inch model comes with a resolution of 1280 x 800 (189 ppi), a tad higher than the $329 iPad mini's 163 ppi but way below the $199 Nexus 7's 216 ppi.
