No none sense cell phone
I had this phone for 3 years and it served me well. I would not mind replacing with the same phone because I know it will not disappoint me. Perfect size, one hand operation, sharp reception in handsfree speaker, never once...I repeat ...never once had it drop a call, functions easy to find, keys perfect for fingers. Very durable...a few scratches here and there but I don't mind. I have drop it a few times and it is still in one piece.Less
Older phone now ringer is loud enough to hear in the van while I drive pictures are decent enough,Lost this phone in mid winter and recently found in the former snow bank (oops) still works great. This is a simple phone to use and doesnt compare to todays phones but its durable and fits well into my pocket and hand. if you are thinking of getting one because its cheap, By all means you can't go wrong!Less
I've had this phone for three years now, the contract is just ending this month, and I must say, it has served me well. The best thing about it is its durability. I've dropped this phone multiple time, once even off a two story balcony, and it's totally fine. It's a little slow when it comes to Bluetooth, but it's a good phone for anyone who just needs a phone to talk and text with. The camera does get dusty and hard to clean, but it's not the greatest camera compared to newer phones, so who really cares? The V551 is functional, easy to use, and long lasting, but I personally can't wait to get a new sleeker phone that will fit inside my pocket. :PLess
Worst Phone I've EVER Had!
I had this phone for now 3 years, and I've had nothing but problems. Sorry this is long, but it's worth it. After less than a year of having the phone, and luckily still under warranty, I had my first problem with the phone. I turned my phone on one day, and the screen was black. The phone was obviously on, since the keys lit up, but the screen wouldn't turn on. I wasn't able to see anything on the screen no matter what. I had the phone sent out for service, since being under warranty. It got sent back to me after 2 weeks with the apparent problem fixed. 2 weeks later, the same thing happened AGAIN. At this point I requested a new phone. They sent the phone out for servicing again, and reluctantly gave me a new phone, same model. 1 year later, still using this new phone, the screen went black -- the exact same problem as the first phone. No longer under warranty, to send this phone out for repair now would be $200, and that's without them diagnosing anything wrong. I resulted to taking it to a repair shop where the man replaced the whole casing, since the problem apparently is with a wire in the screen burning out. This cost me $40 (big difference in price!). 4 months later, the volume began going out on the phone. People sounded like they were speaking to me through a tunnel on the phone. This didn't happen all the time, only occasionally. It didn't matter where I was located, or where the other person was (ie. bad reception). I could phone from the same spot 10 minutes later and hear them fine. At this point I have given up and am now using a friend's old phone until my contract is up. My dad has just had the same thing happen to him with the same phone of 2 years old and I have a friend with the same phone that this happened to her 2 years ago, this was when I first heard about it. My advice: Don't touch this phone with a ten foot pole unless you want problems. Not even a decent back-up phone. May be good for a short period of time, but not in the long run.Less
Old...but usable...which equals to AMAZING
I first have to say that if you are going to get this phone at the persent time that you are reading it ... DON'T. I have had this phone for 3 years and because of new features that are out i dont like it very much anymore, but for buying this three years ago and still working perfectly until now, means it is an Amazing phone! I think this is one of the greatest product that motorola has designed. (wayyy better than the razr, or the 5010, that came out recently). When the phone first came out it was an amazing, excellent phone. At that time it also had a great camera, but nowadays there are cell phones that go up to 5 mega pixiles in the camera. It has great features, amazing keypad, excellent quality. however it is slow at bluetooth. Bottom line: phone has a camera but poor quality, you are able to surf the web easily, no expendable memory, however if u are a person who just likes to talk on the phone and text, excellent phone for you :)Less
a poor quality phone, but usable
This was definetly not worth purchasing. very poor quality Pros: -a sturdy phone -it had t9 word (good for texting) Cons: -bulky, doesnt fit well into a pocket -battery says its full but then dies unexpectedly (sometimes) -calls dropped often -camera lens gets dusty, it is very hard to clean -ring volume changes while in my purse, so I missed calls oftenLess
I have had this phone since September 2005, and it's been great! No dropped calls, never a problem with volume...the battery life has just started to drop off. I seldom have long conversations on it, my calls are usually short, and it is used for texting. This has been the best phone I have had, it is my 4th cell. It has been dropped a few times with no repercussions. Yes, it is easy to accidentally change the volume setting by accidentally hitting the button on the left side of the phone, which is why I give it an 8 for design. It is stored in a pocket in my purse so that seldom occurs.Less
Very Poor Quality!
My V551 started to give me major problems about 10 mths after receiving it. I ended up getting a so called refurbished phone and now this one is having the EXACT same problems as the other one! Dropped calls, little to no service, phone doesn't ring at times goes to voicemail, when it rings it won't let me answer it...the entire phone freezes with a blank screen!Less
I first got an LG phone, that was much better than this piece of junk. I was having major problems with service, dropped calls, weak signal, etc so Cingular told me it was the phone (not true) and had me 'upgrade' to the V551 instead. What a mistake that was, and they wouldnt take it back. I'm on my third now, and every one has had a charging issue as I'm sure others have stated. It also has a mind of its own and randomly turns on and off when it feels the urge. The signal bounces around like a pogo stick at times, and the sound quality and volume sucks especially with an earpiece or bluetooth. My wife's cheapo Samsung is 100x better and has none of these issues. The menus are difficult to navigate and the way the phone fights you and randomly pauses and crashes and shuts on and off reminds me of Windows. I even told that to a Motorola designer who so happens to design their phones and his lack of response only confirms my suspicion. I will never buy another Motorola product after owning this phone.Less
Piece of Junk
MANY problems with this phone; low to zero volume (varies by call) is the biggest problem and is well documented in these other reviews, so I won't go into much detail. Speakerphone works OK, but the problem is that I usually I HAVE to use it, because it's the only way I can hear the other person. The actual design of the phone is not bad; it's just that it's put together like junk -- it seems as if, instead of spending 30 cents on the parts, they spent 20 cents. Insane. The other problem is the design of the charger, which is prone to stop working after a few uses unless you bend it (to the left, in my case) and keep it pulled that way while it's charging. I agree with the person who said they would never but a Motorola product OR their stock, but I would go a step further and consider selling the stock short. Do NOT buy this phone or any phone by Motorola.Less
