I have had this phone for three years! It still works like the day I bought it except I think that the battery is finally getting tired since I have to charge it about every other day now instead of once every 4 or 5 days like when I first got it. I have dropped this phone at least two dozen times (on hard pavemnent and floors) Still workss great. I have no complaints about the speakerphone. I can hear it just fine. I don't do text messages (what a pain in the a$$, just send an e-mail)I want a phone that makes and recieves calls...that it...and this phone does a great job. In three years I bet I have only had 5 dropped calls (a testament to the phone and the service) I get a signal when no one else can...same service or not. As far as the voice tags, read the manual, you can reprogram the phone to make voice tag calls with whatever buttons you want. On my phone I just push the center button and one then say the name. It has speed dial so i only use the voice tags for people I routinely call while driving...pretty easy. Its a great phone and that is all that I need. Less

Nice phone, easy to use

I like phones that do 2 simple thing. Answer a call or make a call and thats what this phone is good at.

The biggest problem started shortly after having had the phone for only one year. I am disconnected when flipping it open to answer a call. Now I flip it open then press answer. I sometimes still don't get the call because I can't answer fast enough because it takes the phone time to stabilize to being flipped open before I'm able to answer. This phone is a perfect example of throw away technology. It's as if it was made to last a year and no longer. I'm very disappointed. It puts you in a position of having pay for another phone, change carriers or sign up for a two year contract in order to get a new phone. So much for customer service and standing behind your product. I've also had, and continue to have, problems with intermittent volume changes during a conversation. This phone is junk when compared to the Nokia (least expensive model) I had for almost 7 years (only giving it up because technology made it obsolete). Less

My family can use their cells in the house, I can't even get a signal across the street! Avoid this phone! I thought maybe my sim card was bad, so I swapped it out and tried my card in my husband's phone. It wasn't the card, it is the phone. I talked to a dealer, and she has had several v-188 phones returned. Stay away from this phone! Less

Mediocre

from Amazon
The plasma screen cracked within one month of purchase. The phone never fell nor did I treat it roughly. It just cracked in my pocket. I also found myself a bit frustrated with the extremly small buttons.

Utter Krap

I'm really not that selective about cell phones. I don't want a camera, I don't care what it looks like, I don't need no fancy bluetooth garbage. I'm really not that selective about cell phones. I don't want a camera, I don't care what it looks like, I don't need no fancy bluetooth garbage. I just want a phone that will call people, and I really like voice dialing, which was one of the reasons I selected this phone. That was where my disappointment began. This phone does have voice activated dialing, but it is very limited. You can attach a voice tag to a limited number of contacts stored on the phone (rather than contacts stored on the SIM card). That's it. You can't actually dial numbers or give any voice commands other than a half dozen pre-selected contacts. Beyond that, the phone seemed fine for the first few months. I was impressed with the battery life, and it didn't have any notable reception problems. The predictive text output also works quite well. After about the six month point, however, I began to have problems. The first is that the battery has become virtually useless. I have to charge it every day, even if I only talk a half hour or so during the day. If I charge this phone all night while I sleep, then leave the house with it at 8 am, the battery will be completely dead within 12 hours. The other significant problem is with the ringtones. Over the last month, the phone has begun to choose its own ringtones. I never know which one is going to sound. I have one ringtone on the phone that is mildly offensive and not appropriate for work or other formal places. I really like it, but I can't handle the fact that it could play at any time, no matter what ringtone I've set. Sometimes it plays the t-mobile jingle for a ringtone, which is useless to me when I'm in my car because it's so quiet, not to mention how mother-f***ing annoying it is. I'm sure that the battery life is going to continue to decrease and that I will be forced to replace this phone before I'm eligible for a discounted upgrade in six months. So my overall assessment: a useless hunk of crap. Less

This thing is built like a tank!!!

from Amazon
First of all I agree that the speakerphone is not the best but I'm here to tell you that this thing is built like a tank. I have dropped this phone no less than 50 times; on sidewalks, subway, running, etc., and it just keeps going and going. Yes, it's a no frills phone but I challenge you to find a tougher phone.

However, I have to say one good thing about it - last night when my call got dropped for the five millionth time, I in a fit of rage, snapped my phone in half - don't ask. But, the bottom half works just fine with speakerphone - thought that was kinda cool - break it and it works better....lol Less

Fine, except...

from Amazon
Much has been said about this phone's reception ability. However, no one has spoken to its biggest problem -- that is, its 1.8 MB of memory. This phone can only hold about 30 text messages. So if you anticipate wanting to keep texts for the future, this is not the phone for you. You'll end up deleting texts that you'd prefer to keep.
