8/10
Informr score
The Motorola Moto X currently has an Informr score of 8 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 59 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The Motorola Moto X is the first Google-created phone from Motorola. Unlike many other smartphones of its class, the Moto X offers incredible customization from memory storage to color choice of the phone itself.

The X offers a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of memory and either 16 or 32B of onboard storage. Although these specs aren’t particularly impressive, especially compared to phones like the HTC One and Galaxy S4, TechRadar notes that that phone offers notable features such as “hands-free Google Now voice commands, a clever notification system and camera access with the flick of wrist.” Despite the lower hardware specs, the phone boasts a long battery life and, according to Motorola, can last up to 10 days on standby mode and Engadget notes that the battery life lasted well over 24-hours with numerous apps running.

The 4.7” screen on the Moto X has a 720p resolution, which is lower than the HTC One display and other smartphones in its class. Despite a slightly lower resolution, Engadget notes that the screen “looks great from most any angle...That said, it's not the brightest display...and the glaring light of a bright summer sun does make it difficult to discern onscreen content.” In addition, the smaller screen means a smaller phone. TechRadar says that the size and weight of the phone make it easier to wield than current Android leaders and goes on to say that “it's easy to operate in one hand, due to its moderate size as well as a power button and volume rocker on the right side.”

Most reviewers agree that the Moto X is an excellent phone despite some pitfalls. Engadget states that “it's the smartest smart object I'm currently carrying on my person.” While TechRadar disliked the camera quality and the lack of removable storage they still praise the phone saying, “It is a great phone though, one we'd be happy to champion.”

The Good: Excellent battery life, good viewing angle, customization of actual phone color.

The Bad: Poor quality camera, no removable storage, lower screen resolution when compared to Android phone leaders.

Don't think that just because the Moto X 2014 name didn't get much of a change that the phone is just a basic specs bump.
