Not only Telus but Bell needs to Re-evaluate

I purchased my service from Bell at a trade show and made it very clear that I wanted an external antenna. They assured me the phone had one, and then that evening a friend looked at the phone and discovered it in fact did not. The Bell sales people did not take the phone with them that night and it turned out I had to fight with them to get the phone exchanged. Well . . . when they did exchange the phone I didn't ask what phone they were going to replace the original with, and I didn't come to a site like this to check out the reviews. So I ended up with this a840, and have to say that I have experienced everything negative that has been said here. It appears as though these cell phone packages and equipment are tricky business. I've had this phone for two years and it served me well in terms of coverage. I've used it in South Africa, Swaziland, Britain, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg and it worked great. Virgin Mobile and Vodacom SA SIM cards worked in the device without incident and saved me big bucks as I paid local rates on local calls, and with Virgin Mobile I didn't have to pay for incoming calls. In fact, I could get a whole day off the battery with moderate use while overseas- so the device was adequate there. Unfortunately, this phone did not serve me well in Canada because I couldn't get through the day even only on standby. No matter where I visited or if I was home (I live in a digital zone) I couldn't get more than 10 hours of battery life per day. After several requests to allow me to upgrade early Telus finally let me go for a RAZR which has a lot more bells and whistles and I can get 4 or 5 days without charging. Ultimately, the ridiculous battery life is a big disadvantage for this phone, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you travel overseas regularly, it might be better to consider picking up a GSM phone at your destination. Less

Very poor

I can't think of a good thing to say. Battery dies quickly, telus doesn't care, poor reception under any metal roof,It wouldn't work in Europe on 2 trips dispite promises from telus, speaker too easily activated as is camera function, shoddy case etc. I will change provider to get rid of the thing.

The worst phone ever

this phone is very hard to navigate. You cannot see the screen unless it is totally dark. The controls are always been pressed accidentally so you get allot of junk photos and the ring setting is always resetting. The phone seem to have the battery life of 6 hours if you do not talk on it. So overall this phone is a good paper weight.

This phone has been nothing but a piece of crap from the day I got it. It has nothing but problems constantly and no one will do anything about it. I bought it brand new and they already have sent it out 2 times for fixing but it still doesn't work properly. The battery life is way short lasting only a day and the phone keeps beeping busy try again when I'm on the phone talking. Half the time I can't hear the caller i'm trying to talk to and the phone keeps resetting itself. The outside screen doesn't light up sometimes to show me who's calling and the light up key pad lights up when it wants to. So I suggest NOT BUYING this junk. Tou'll just have constant problems and no help. I've been dealing with this for 2 months and it's still not resolved. Less

Good reception. All round a good phone

This is meant to be a cell phone. Not a camera, so I really do not care that the pictures are not very good quality. Not an mp3 player, or an a web browser, althought theses are good features. Strictly speaking as a cell phone, this one has given me the best reception of any phone I have owned. PERIOD.

Sucks big time

No bluetooth, crap camera, battery life of a day and half. Mine fell apart on me after 6 months - the car charger pulled a piece out of the main board inside the phone - no warranty for that. $600 or buy a new phone. What do you think?

Frustrating

I do not need a crummy camera, but I cannot find a way to turn this off. The side button for the camera is too easy to activate - I have dozens of pictures of my foot. The name recognition is indifferent and the side volume button is foreever being reset (to vibrate) in my pocket so I miss calls. The manual absolutely sucks. For example, memory deletion is found by trial and error, not in the index. The battery life is low and often the charger fails to engage. Avoid!!! Less

Excellent

This phone is absolutely amazing!!!

Piece of Crap

This phone is a world phone, great if your a big traveler and need a cell phone you can use everywhere. But you can''t download ringtones, wallpapers, and the camera is horrible.
