The LG Optimus Chat C550 is a basic feature phone that runs on the Android 2.2 operating system. It features a touch screen on the front of the phone and a slide out QWERTY keyboard for faster text messaging. Beyond simple text messaging, the C550 can also perform functions such as email and instant messaging. It can also browse social networking websites such as Facebook by using its built-in social networking applications. The C550 also features 3G connectivity and a built-in Internet browser that works well.
The touch screen is mediocre when it comes to responsiveness and the colors on the screen are rather dull compared to other touch screen phones. Text is clear enough to be perfectly readable though, even in bright light.
The basic features of the Chat C550 work very well and it is the perfect phone for someone who uses their phone for simple tasks such as calling and text messaging. It does not measure up to more expensive and advanced Android phones though. While most of the applications from the app store will work on the C550, many of them will run slower than normal and others might not work correctly at all. The phone only has 140 MB of internal memory so you probably will need to buy a separate micro SD card for more storage.
While the phone may lack some features, it does offer great battery life. The C550 can easily go a couple of days without being charged even when used heavily throughout the day. Light users may see this time increased to almost a week between charges.

I truly dislike this phone
I've had this phone for a year now and it started out fine but then now I seem to have trouble using the texting app because it randomly goes to the home screen mid-message. I don't like how its very heavy and very chunkyLess
This phone sucks. Do NOT buy it!
I've had this phone since Christmas. I was excited because I was upgrading from the Samsung evergreen I had to a more high tech phone. At first I was thrilled to have an android. But a few months later I figured out how much I hate this phone. ALthough the battery life is the only good quality about this phone. The keyboard sometimes does not let you type, but when it does, sometimes it won't let you press certain keys, or it brings up email. It has also turned global internet data/roaming on before. The phone basically "siezes". I press one app, and then it starts to bring up recent apps, email, music, calender, and flashes between recent history or apps when I am trying to be on a certain app. The keyboard lags. I am currently typing this review on an lg optimus chat, and it is about five words behind what I am actually typing. The phone comes with pre set backgrounds, and I do not like them, I wish I had more variety. It's stupid that you can't delete preset apps either. I do not have facebook nor twitter, and find no use for these apps to be on the phone. If you want them you can download them in the play store. All in all, this phone sucks, and I need to upgrade. I warn you, do NOT buy this phone unless all you want is problems.Less
Perfect funtionality, if only it worked
This phone started off as exactly what I was looking for in a phone. If it worked properly, definitely at least an 8/10. Unfortunately, I've had constant problems. Emergency mode turns itself on at least twice a day, making me remove the battery to get it to reset. The soft keys malfunction like no tomorrow, exiting me out of menus and texts at least 3 times before I complete what I was trying to do. Sent it in for service THREE times, and they still can't fix it. Love the Qwerty, and my brother has the exact same phone and it works fine. Highly unreliable.Less
I really don't like this phone
It glitched out in the first few months of me having it and I can hardly text now 'cause it always closes the screen. It's also very slow :(Less
It's a shame
I bought this phone for the slide-out keyboad, which I love, but the phone has major problems. It turns off and then wont turn back on, even when it has a fully chrged battery. It lags really bad when using the touch screen. Sometimes it gets stuck when dialing a number and it sounds like I'm leaving my finger on one number forever even though I'm not even touching it. It's really not reliable. I was using the alarm on it as an alarm clock, but I can't do that anmore incase it turns off on me in the middle of the night. Taking the battery out and then putting it back in seems to correct the problem for some time, so maybe it's a defective battery... I don't know, but I will be taking it in to Koodo soon.Less
I dislike this phone so many problems it has now been discontinued
Goes too emergency mode sometimes when turned on,this will automatic dial 911 and you can not turn the phone off you have too take the battery out too get out of the emergency screen, the police are not happy about that problem, even when the phone is turned off the emergency mode can activate its self and dial 911 telusmobility does not know what the problem is,my grand son had too buy out his contract with telusmobility because of the same problem, the lg smart phone I will not get again,I have the lgc555 I was not told in June 2012 when I was told by telusmobility too take that phone with my new contract that it is no long on the market, the manager at telusmobility gave me the last one, now I know why he talked me into that phone, utter rubbish phone, going too cost me $200+12% tax too renew another 3year contract with ,telusmobility after them giving me a defected phone 2months agoLess
I like this phone because...
this phone is a nice basic phone that does what you basically want it to do. It doesn't have the best battery life but text messaging is nice and easy and calling is good and quite clear too and browsing is not a piece of cake but no hassle either. I've had this phone for three weeks now and pretty pleased by it.Less

I like this phone because it has a great keyboard and does what I want a phone to do.
