I have the LG 5450 flip phone. My phone has been dropped onto the ground/floor countless times. At times instead of placing it gently onto a table it's been thrown onto it where it bounces/shimmies a few times before sliding to it's final resting place atop the table. The flip when being closed was typically SNAPPED shut instead of being closed gently and slowly. The battery has been deep cycled and short cycled hundreds of times. It has several thousand minutes of use. The phone has resided under the seat of my car and at times somewhere in the trunk too. Also, at the bottom of my commuter bag, briefcase, suitcase, and kitchen miscellaneous drawer. No surprise that the silver finish on the edges of the phone are starting to wear off. The round side charging plug works great and is the best design in my opinion. The 12V car type which plugs into the bottom just started to have connectivity problems...not sure if it's the phone or the charger. A 12V DC to 110 V AC adapter utilizing the home charging unit remedies that issue quickly. The outer screen just got a small crack in it but the LCD (which is the best type of outer display) still works An outer LCD display is the best type compared to a LED display....an LED display uses much more power to remain lit and display information thus they automatically shut down to conserve power. However, an LCD display, such as on this phone is always on so a moments glance at the phone and you can tell what's going on...ie missed call, voice mail, time, signal strength, etc. Push the rocker button and instantly it becomes back lit for night time viewing. LCD’s use very little power to stay on…just look at your typical digital watch. Spectacular functionality for a typically overlooked yet important function of a cell phone. Style and pizzazz has forced mfgs to make outer displays LED to support camera function, etc. The LG 5450 reception is great. Very few dropped calls. Sound quality is good. Signal strength has always been good to great in remote areas. I bought my LG 5450 well over 5 years ago. It's still on the original battery. Stand by time is still very good. Talk time is okay after all these years. And now the internal screen has finally crapped out....no surprise considering how I've treated the phone but it has served me well and it owes me nothing. My new phone is a very basic phone. It's the Samsung M220 and has bluetooth and speakerphone...two things the LG5450 didn't have. The Samsung M220 is okay but the outer display annoys me to no end since it's an LED type....see above. I’ve had this new phone for only 4 days and I'm trading it in when I can find a flip whose outer display doesn't go completely dark and appear to be dead when in fact it's on and needs to inform you of a missed event or status. In conclusion the LG 5450 for what it was designed to do does it very well and the durability is superb. 10/10. Less

Great phone!

I have been using this phone for a couple of years now and love it. I bought it refurbished and have never had any issues with it. The battery goes for days before I have to charge it. It does not take the best pics but I did not get it to be a replacement for my digital camera!!

8 years and going...

Have read others reviews and would disagree. I recently went back to using my 8 year old LG and it is fine. I have dropped it on cement numerous times, dropped it in a pool, and traveled the country as an over the road trucker with it, and it is flawless, worked everywhere with great reception. I have had the phone for almost 3 years now and i can guarantee that it is a durable phone and take a lot falls ( not recommended to test it) but there are a lot of problems with it as well. Most of its features are very basic and although it has a lot of ring tones the poor quality of the speaker always makes them distorted and hard to hear when in full volume, when not in full volume the phone has to pretty much be beside for you to hear it and when in vibration mode is just not strong enough to feel it even when it is in your pocket. The picture resolution is not the best but it isn't bad either, overall a is tough phone, very bulky with poor sound quality and crappy battery life, which usually starts to fail quickly. Less

I have two of these phones when I signed up in a family plan with Telus. Not more than a year in to the terrible 3 year contract, one of the phones front screen started to do odd things; such as flipping the text, distorted pixels, or all the pixels lit up. Today the inside screen went completely white. It would occationally work but would be on a 45 degree angle and then have white pinstripe lines in it. After about 3 seconds it would fade to white. If you are going to purchase this phone, look at other alternatives. This is a bulky poor performer with mediocre features. Less

I purchased this phone from Telus almost 3 years ago. It was great at first, considering how my previous phone was so old. However, not even after 1yr, it started to break down on me. The front screen would blank out, ringing non stop even when nobody was calling, screen flipped backwards... etc. I brought it into Telus and explained the problem, but everybody just looked at me funny. Then they told me that even though it hasn't been a full year yet, they would have to CHARGE me for sending it out to SEE if it needed repairing and if it did, then I would have to pay for it. On top of re-downloading all my pictures, ringtones and phone numbers!!! Recently, the phone stopped charging. I can't seem to get it to charge while I am at home. If I angle the phone in different positions, I might be lucky enough to get it to charge, but most of the time it does nothing. I now have to start charging my phone in my car. My experience with this LG phone has made me weary of others. Are all LG phones this crappy??!? Less

about this phone

This phone is great to have because its very handy.I love this phone, you can put more than one number on your personal phone book. You can also take pictures and put them for your phone book contacts. it is very handy!

Unexplained breakdown

We have had this phone (actually two identical 5450 phones) for 16 mos. Yesterday one phone died, no screen info when you flip it open. Front (closed) screen work with date time visual. My experience with Telus customer service was disgusting with no posative results. I learned my lesson on locking in on plans.

I bought this phone as my first camera phone (and first LG phone)to replace my Kyocera 424C. Got it refurbished from the Telus webstore for under 80.00 CAD and what a sweet deal it was. The phone is built solid and looks like it can take a drop or two (although I wouldn't recommend dropping it). The display is bright and clear and navigation of the menu system is easy to learn. The camera takes very good pictures for an under 1 MP camera which was good news. Only draw back is there is no zoom function or preview on outer screen when taking self portraits. But there is a tiny mirror to allow you to centre yourself for taking a good picture. The call quality is great. Always clear and always loud. I used this phone alot for text messaging and webmail and it worked flawlessly. Battery life was very good both on standby and talktime. I am not a big phone user but found myself charging my phone on average once or twice a week depending on how much I used the phone. All in all, I think this phone is a great entry level camera phone that doesn't feel entry level. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get their first camera phone. Less

I got this phone one month ago. When I first saw it I really liked it. I like that when you open the phone it is flat with the camera which forms excellent t yuor face when you talk on the phone. The first thing I checked when I got the phone in my hand was the camera. It is a excellent camera. For only 0.3 Megepixel I am surprised about the quality, it does not fuzz up or slow down when you move and it is crystal clear. I sent a picture to my e-mail from the phone and the picture was just as good or better than my 3.2 megapixel digital camera. Very satisfied there :D Also the screen itslef is very incredibly clear. It beats all available Motorola phones screens at 262k screen, when the bets Motorola has is 65k. The menu is pretty much the same as all phone except it makes a cool musical sound when you scroll down, but this feature can be turned off very easy. One bad thing about the menu is you kind of have to dig into the phone to find things. Also not too often but quite frequently when opening UTILITIES the phone will freeze and restart on me :( Ringtone volume is really good, I never miss a call, but I also have vibrate on all the time with the ringer. Also I like it because it is capable to play the ringtones I buy on Much Music, which are not regular ringtones, but REALTONES so it plays the actual song with the beat and lyrics ( very sneaky to get away with in class I just say my iPod has loud speakers LoL ) I was very tired of my Sony Ericsson''s orange key pad, and much more impressed by the visibility and quality of the cool blue keypad on this phone :) I would write more pro''s about this phone but I have to leave so I hope this helped you out and if you are thinking about getting this phone think no more, this is the phone for you :D Less
