What the Critics Are Saying...

PCWorld

There's plenty to like about RIM's BlackBerry 7130e, especially its roomy screen, its compatibility with multiple e-mail clients, and its broadband-level data connections. Unfortunately, this standard cell phone also has some major flaws, especially when it comes to making calls.

The display and Icons are very nice and easy to use. The keyboard set up is a little strange at first, but you will be firing out TXT messages in no time with a little practice. Emails pop up on my phone faster than they do on the computer! Overall, this is a great phone for the money. You can easily find one on ebay for under $100. I got mine for $50.00 shipped! Less

Ring Tone!!!

I personally do not like this blackberry after having it for about a month , as the ring tone is too soft not loud enough for me but it cannot be adjust as the max volume is ONLY 3. For the TASK alert portion , it has no way to send you reminder for certain TASK that I had scheduled.

Its great! I love that I can teather my lap top to it and have broadband internet access where ever I go. This is great for my job! I am a regional manager and I spend a lot of time in the car and at places other than my office. I have two differant email accounts fowarded to it. I also have a google map program on it that will keep me from getting lost. I have barely touched all the potential uses of this device. It mimics my address book in Lotus Notes, this saved a ton of time programming in phone numbers, adresses, and email addresses. It does take a while to figure out all the functions of this device. Blackberry has a pretty good website that walks you through some of this stuff. If you invest a little bit of time you can figure it out though. I can not imagine going back to a regular phone after this. Less

Pro: Many features Con: Lots of instructions I got my Blackberry for a birthday present and I have to say that it is the most awesome gadget I have...and I have a few. It's like carrying a little hand held computer. I can work on a spreadsheet at work on my desktop and send it to my Blackberry! Of course it can't hold huge spreadsheets, but the fact that it can hold any is amazing. I can do the same with documents, etc. I can check my email, search the Web, email others, text, whatever. And, it has an alarm, a task manager, calendar, memo pad, address book, calculator and can hold pictures...mine doesn't take them though. I would highly recommend the Blackberry. It is just so cool! Talk about a value! Less

Con: Things I really wish I had now: Voice Recorder, Voice Dialing, Camera, MP3, and having an SD slot. Using experience: 3 months I knew BlackBerry made a great PDA but sometimes there are just certain features that you fall in love with, and will end up missing. Don't get me wrong, I think the PDA functions out weight what I am missing, but I wanted to be honest about what is not there. Less

Be sure you know BlackBerry e-mail before you start to set it up because you could mess it up! Using experience: 5 weeks I have been using the 7130 for about a month now, and must say it is the best phone I have had. I have used other BlackBerry PDA's with other carriers but I have just fallen in love with this model and it's functionality. EV-DO services should be reason enough for everyone to jump ship and pick up this phone from Verizon. Less

Using experience: 2 months I took a couple days reading about the 7130e and reading user reviews. I have always used different brands of PDA's so this was my first BlackBerry. Boy was I glad to have finally made the switch. It took me about a week to get used to the new keyboard but then it was smooth sailing. If you are considering going with Verizon, I would recommend that you get this phone because it is worth it! Less

I got it for the broadband access. I live in the sticks, but am under 1XEV coverage. That works very well, gets me out of dial-up world. Good signal, phone-wise. Great msg center as one would expect from BlackBerry. Personally, I needed the wireless broadband - that and it being a phone was pretty much it, for me. Cons: no voice commands or even voice dial, just got it - but adding caller-id #''s to the address book seems impossible (what am I missing?), manuals are very light and vague, no wifi, no camera, no video, vibrate is kind of weak, when use it as phone when tethered, the modem is camped (you are still connected, but can''t send or receive), alerts and notifications (email, txt) don''t occur when using connected to the internet, can''t figure how to ''ignore'' the call when it is in it''s holster. If you can wait, I would give it no more than a year before all of my ''cons'' are implemented. Less

I am amazed that blackberry branched off into the phone world with this offering. I found the handset to be easy to use and incredibly functional. The tethering capabilities gave me an expensive go anywhere wireless modem. And the speeds are wild on CDMA''s new EV-DO network. The functionality takes some getting used to and if you like T9 and you have a laptop and you use it as a laptop!!! hint hint then this phone/all in one/wireless modem is a must have for connectivity when I was on the wireless modem it still received calls.
