Undependable, rotten quality

Extremely undependable phone. I've had to replace the phone twice in 6 months because the keypad kept getting messed up. I'm nervous about using it, not knowing when its going to die on me.

As a matter for fact it is embrassing. you take it out of the holster to mahe a call, and when you do you get the message call fail this goes on for ever and ever. the phone is actualy crap. My advice is that it should be pulled off shelves if they are still there. Dear friends pleae dont compound your frustrations. DO NOT TAKE THAT PHONE AS A GIFT. Less

Don't even think about trying to fix it. It will take all your time. I have a feeling that RIM know there is a problem with the memory but will not fess up! Try throwing it at the wall...SERIOUSLY! It will reboot and then you can reload the firmware. The problem will come back shortly thereafter however! Less

It also gets into a "call failed" mode that will go on and on until you...big surprise....pull the battery and watch the dancing hour glass. Many is the time due to the above that I did not know I could not get calls and almost mucked up my day. Ringer very low and the setting are overly complex. Crappy ring tones. The organizer---you'd do better with a PDA. The good... When I am done with my contract I will get a nail and drive it through the electronic heart of this piece of junk. Less

I have been using this device for 8 months and been pretty happy with it. As with all phones and PDA's it has it quirks. The biggest one being that it occasionally locks up and there is no rhyme or reason to why and sometimes takes 20 minutes to get the thing reset and back up and working. It is not something that happens all the time but it does happen. On the pluses, syncing with my corporate mail, calanders and contacts without any effort on my part. I love this seemless integration. On the negetive,it is hard to dail numbers while doing something else, like driving. Jury's still out on the perdictive typing. And with large fingers, sometimes I may cause my own issues. Overall, I like the device and am going purchase one for my wife who has email envy... Less

I liked this phone pretty well until the 'shift' key stopped working. It started acting up a week before warranty ran out--unfortunately, I didn't click to that, and I waited to see if it would work itself out. It just got worse. T-Mobile has been no help in trying to get it replaced. I suppose I should have called immediately, but I would think they would be more helpful, given the $70/mo. I have spent with them for the last couple of years. Anyway, time for a new carrier and and a new phone, unfortunately. Pretty good software, OK phone service, loooooong hold times at T-Mobile, and I won't buy another Blackberry due to quality issues. Less

Personally, I have not had a problem with battery life, although the phone quality is not perfect. Using the Suretype keypad is almost as fast as typing on a regular QWERTY keyboard. I give this device an overall 4 because the browser is a disaster (but that's hardly RIM's fault). It's way too slow and altogether very annoying. Buy this device for its email functionality and not the browser. My overall experience: cannot survive without it. Less

Great for email - bad for phone calls

I have had my phone for almost one year. The screen is great, emails come through fast and I have no problem typing a quick email or text message with the keys. However, the microphone is super sensitive and picks up every bit of background noise. Plus, you have to keep the phone well away from your mouth or people will not be able to hear you. Many times people tell me it sounds like you are in a tunnel. In the car, the sound is worse. I am going to look at that new blackberry 8700 that Cingular now offers as a replacement. And i did download the latest software that was supposed to fix this microphone problem, it didn't. Less

Unlike some of the other reviewers I think this is a great device. I had been a standard cell phone user and have had a Blackberry device in the past. I had also continued to use a Palm PDA for on-the-go contact info, etc. My main goal was to consolidate everything into one device without sacrificing too much on any function. On that front the 7100t is all that I could want - I have full Outlook address syncronization for contacts, memo's and tasks, e-mail integration with both my personal and business e-mail accounts, plus a phone with way better reception and performance than anything I had with LG or Nokia phones on the Verizon network in the past several years. Yes, the buttons are a little small, but you just tilt it more to type with your thumb tips and not the flat part. I think that the IM, SMS and e-mail messaging options are well done, and the web surfing is good enough for me. On the first days that I had it, I was searching for nearby movies and buying my tickets on-line using the device. I am now waiting for delivery of a Bluetooth headset, although the sound quality using the handset or the hands-free are just fine so far. Less

I've owned this particular blackberry for a year. I wasn't sure if a blackberry could make the leap to a true phone and a reasonably sized pocket device. The verdict is in: this model rocks as a phone and an email device. You can hold it up to your ear and it feels and behaves like a solid, high-quality cell phone. The predictive text keypad is excellent -- I doubted it at first but I received some very good advice from another user which I will pass on to you: trust it. Just fly, type as fast as your thumbs will go. The text engine is very smart and over time learns to pick up names and other favorite terms so that by the third day I was jamming through emails faster than I ever thought possible on a mobile device. A lengthy email will require a few corrections sometimes due to thumb error, sometimes due to predictive text error but the juice is definitely worth the squeeze on this piece of technology. I've dropped it many times, I've scratched the screen, I've jammed it in car doors. The screen is in fine shape. The phone works reliably. This device is currently holding over 800 emails in its inbox with no performance issues, searching through emails, adding contacts to the address book, all of this is incredibly intuitive and it "just works." Get this one -- it's a great value! Less
