The ASUS PadFone X Mini was an interesting device to spend some time with. At first I was intrigued just at the whole PadFone concept, but then the speed of the device kept me away for a bit. In the end though this is how I chose to look at it. This is an extremely good price for the amount of hardw...

The PadFone Mini X gives you two devices for the price of one, but unfortunately, neither device is that good.

Pretty neat for its versatile, dual functioning design

from PhoneArena

Everything points to the obvious, undeniable reality that the Asus PadFone X isn’t the stuff in our dreams. Sure, there’s a laundry list of unpleasant qualities with the PadFone X mini, but we can’t argue one bit about its pricing – $199 outright as a prepaid option through AT&T.

That’s pretty outstanding when you consider that you’re getting a dual-functioning device that can go from a smartphone to a tablet on a whim. Comparing it to what else is out there, the price alone is the same cost as some other standalone 7-inch tablets – so it’s an inviting incentive that we find valuable. Honestly, we can recommend a handful of better smartphones and tablets that are similarly spec’d and priced, but it all boils down if you want to consolidate and simply stick with an underperforming thing that’s only good for the basic stuff.

The ASUS PadFone X Mini was an interesting device to spend some time with. At first I was intrigued just at the whole PadFone concept, but then the speed of the device kept me away for a bit. In the end though this is how I chose to look at it. This is an extremely good price for the amount of hardware you’re getting, but you better not planning on doing a lot with it. For only $199 without a contract on AT&T’s GoPhone pre-paid plan I’d say this is a solid option for anyone looking for a phone and a tablet for a low price, but I wouldn’t recommend it to the average person. I would only recommend this to anyone who needs both devices on the cheap, but doesn’t need to play games or do anything like that. For watching videos, sending messages, and even minor social networking however, this is not a bad option, it’s just not a great one.

The PadFone Mini X gives you two devices for the price of one, but unfortunately, neither device is that good. Both the phone and tablet are average at best, in terms of performance and design. The dim, low-quality screens are a huge disappointment, and the transition from phone to tablet just isn’t smooth enough.

If the Mini had the same great specs as the larger PadFone, it’d be an entirely different story. The Mini’s smaller size is more attractive than the larger version, even though it’s not as slim.

Still, if you really want a PadFone, we recommend taking a look at the larger PadFone X. This version of Asus’ tablet-phone combo has all the high-end specs you’d expect from a flagship device, along with all the benefits of PadFone. It’s actually on sale right now, too. You can get it on Amazon for less than you’d pay for the Mini, and it’s a much better phone and tablet.
