Who Koodo Mobile is
Koodo Mobile is owned by Telus and sells cheaper plans than its parent while using the same network. You can pick a monthly plan with your own phone, a monthly plan with a new phone paid off through the Tab, or prepaid. Most people sign up online at koodomobile.com. You can also buy in person at Koodo locations and at Best Buy, which carries Koodo phone bundles.
Network and coverage
Koodo runs on the Telus network, so in most places your coverage is the same as a Telus customer’s. Its monthly plans include 5G, with speeds up to 1 Gbps on a compatible phone, while prepaid runs on 4G LTE. Where Telus has no signal, your phone can roam onto a partner network, which shows as EXT on your screen. If you live or travel outside big cities, check the coverage map for your exact area before you switch.
How pricing works
Koodo keeps a short list of monthly plans that differ mainly in data and in where they work: Canada only, Canada and the US, or Canada, the US and Mexico. Advertised prices already include the autopay discount, and tax is added on top. The Tab spreads a new phone’s cost over 24 monthly charges, sometimes lowered by a Tab Bonus. There are no fixed-term contracts and no price lock.
Who it suits
Koodo suits people who want the Telus network for less, especially if you bring your own phone or want to pay off a new one without a contract. The Canada-US and Canada-US-Mexico plans help if you cross the border often. It suits you less if you want a price that’s guaranteed for years, since Koodo can change prices on existing plans. The carriers below on the same network are worth comparing before you decide.
