Polaroid has had its fair share of successes and failures over the years, but somehow they've always managed to claw their way back. Perhaps they can do it again in 2016 starting with the smallest action camera available: the Polaroid Cube HD.

So, how small are we talking about? And more importantly, is it worth its price? We went through reviews to come up with a final verdict. Here’s what we found:

Reviewers all seem to agree that the miniature camera (we’re talking 1.4 inches / 3.5cm on all sides) is a great introductory action cam since there is no hassle in bringing it everywhere. What Wearable Tech explains how nice it is to “finally have a camera you can literally throw in your pocket, in your backpack or in your purse to accompany you regardless of where you’re headed.”

The Cube only has a single button in it, which proved to be a divisive factor to its users. A customer reviewer from Amazon noted that the single button “is a bit quirky,” while another reviewer said the single button feature made the camera “very easy to use.” What Wearable Tech wonderfully summarizes the dilemma: “the cube’s one button functionality can seem like a gift and a curse at the same time. This is because there is only one button that performs multiple functions so you need to know how to use that button properly.”

But beyond the single button feature, there are other things you’d have to give up in exchange for the cuteness and portability of the Cube. For one, top quality output cannot be expected. Modysnergy has this to say about the quality of photos taken with the Cube: “They are okay photos but nothing to get excited about.”

In terms of video quality, reviewers truly appreciated the Cube’s ability to make 1080P videos. An Amazon reviewer noted that the “sound and video recording are superb.” So all in all, reviewers all seem to agree that the Cube makes better videos than still photos.

What about the downsides? There are a few things of note. For one, the portable Cube does not allow connections via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It can only be connected to via a USB cable that is too short for some users’ comfort. An Amazon reviewer describes it as an “impossibly short cable.”

Also, the Cube package does not include a free SD card nor any mounting devices (save for the built-in magnetic bottom of the camera). This means the camera will cost most people more than the $99 price to get up and running.

So is it a good buy? For someone who wants a always with you action camera...probably. Reviewers seem to agree the Polaroid Cube HD offers a lot for a very reasonable price.
