The Android market is saturated with smaller 7” tablets for consumers, however for those seeking something larger, there are other options. One such option is the 10.1” Lenovo IdeaTab S6000. The IdeaTab S6000 comes at an impressive price and offers relatively good features when compared to similar budget-type tablets. The 10.1” screen features an IPS display at a resolution of 1280 x 800 and supports multi-touch. It also comes equipped with a 5MP rear-facing camera and a forward facing 0.3MP camera specifically for web chatting. It’s a bit lighter than other tablets of its size, weighing in at 1.24 pounds and measuring in at a slim ⅓ of an inch.
In terms of specs, the S6000 offers a solid base for consumers looking to use the tablet for web browsing and basic games. It comes loaded with a MediaTek quad-core processor is an ARM Cortex-A7 chip, 1GB of RAM, 16/32GB of internal memory, microSD slot, micro-HDMI, micro-USB and, of course, has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Its battery life is especially impressive clocking in at 8 hours when being actively used.
Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks. The screen, while the IPS does provide good viewing angles, only has a 4-point multi-touch while most tablets offer 10-point multitouch. Aside from this, the actual resolution of the screen is much lower than many other tablets of its size. Most 10.1” tablets offer 1900 x 1200 pixels or higher. The 1280 x 800 display leads to some pixelation, especially when connecting connecting to a TV with the micro-HDMI. In addition, the forward-facing camera is very grainy due to the 0.3MP camera and leads to poor quality video when video chatting.
The Good: Excellent price, fast processor, long battery life.
The Bad: 4-point multi-touch screen, lower screen resolution leads to pixelation, poor forward facing camera.
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Simon Allum, CoolsmartphoneI’m not too sure what Lenovo were aiming for with the S6000. The price point of £200 makes it a budget tablet but there are some good specifications onboard. Cuts have obviously been made to the display in order to hit the price however I’d rather pay a little more and have a bette...
