A compact mobile handset for the youth market distinguished by its sliding body design. Instead of using the the more usual hinged flip layout to combine small size and decent screen dimensions in a single package, Kyocera's designers opted for a novel approach. When changing from compact to talk configuration, the top face of the unit with the screen and navigation buttons slides lengthwise to reveal the keypad, and lengthening the handset from three and a half to almost five inches. While this gives the Slider a unique persona, it also makes it more fragile than flip models, which are not exactly reknowned for durability themselves.
The Slider's greatest strengths lie in the style department. Potential users will like the choice of electric blue or orange casings, since almost every comparable flip model comes in silver, silver or silver. Voice dialing is also sure to be a hit, and the Slider even has a feature that automatically adjusts the ear volume to the level of the user's surroundings -- perfect for taking calls in a noisy bar or at a party. Customizing your phone is well-supported, and experienced users will find all the usual options to explore: ringtones, screen savers, even cartoons to associate with phone book entries.
Beside the model's fragility, another major weakness is the keypad: the keys are too small for most adult fingers. Voice dialing bypasses this problem, but it's hard to avoid the keypad entirely. The screen is unremarkable: relatively small, and not exceptionally bright or clear, despite 16-bit (65,000) color.
