The Mophie Powerstation XL is a good choice, but it certainly isn't the best external battery pack available. The large capacity gives you enough juice to fuel your devices for days, but the extra heft of this device makes it noticeable when you're on the go. With two 2.4-amp USB ports, you can plug a tablet into either one and be assured it'll charge in a reasonable amount of time. The Powerstation XL is a capable device; just be aware of its disadvantages.

The bottom line is that if you need serious backup juice in a relatively small package that’s bound to be reliable, Mophie’s latest delivers. It’d be great if someone made a smartphone that eliminated the need for such a thing, but until then, at least there’s the Powerstation XL.
