What's good

  • Bright touchscreen display with stable viewing angles
  • Uses powerful NVIDIA chipset
  • High-resolution display

What's bad

  • Lousy camera performance
  • Sub-optimal hardware button placement
  • Low amount of internal storage

The HP Slate 7 Plus is essentially an upgraded version of the HP Slate 7 tablet which came before it. According to Techradar’s Kate Solomon, this model is basically a "souped up" version of the original. Part of its appeal lies in its use of a metallic silver chassis, a high-def 7-inch screen, and a powerful NVIDIA chipset.

As tablets go, this model is quite affordable, yet it doesn’t necessarily skimp on specs. It has been praised in reviews for being a solid choice in the entry-level range for the mere fact that it performs well in the specs department. The display in particular has been referred to in reviews as one of its best features, boasting stable viewing angles and high brightness levels.

The default software is also quite good, although it’s no longer the latest version of Android. As version numbers go, 4.2.2 is one of the newer ones. And it works extremely well on the 1280x800 resolution screen.

The thing that HP's Slate 7 Plus is faulted for in reviews is the apparent mediocre workmanship put into it during manufacturing. This involves the sub-optimal hardware button placement as well as the high total weight. Camera performance is also apparently disappointing for a multimedia tablet such as this.

The bottom line we took out of the reviews for this tablet is that it’s a great contender in the realm of entry-level models but it’s not as well-rounded as it ought to be. As NotebookCheck.net says, it has many positive aspects, but those who can spend a little more money can expect to get a far better tablet.
