I am interested in the $19 prepaid cell phone plan. I understand that this is a pay-as -you-go plan. If I purchase my own phone, and top buy my own minutes as I go, what is this $19 for?

The $19 is the monthly fee you pay to use Fido's services. Failure to pay the monthly fee will disable most of the services included in your plan. Any usage made will be deducted on a pay per use basis from your account. source
