Phone has ‘frozen’ in the text inbox mode... can’t shut it down or change to any other mode... receives incoming texts but can’t open the text to read it

Hi Susanne. Force the phone to turn off by press and holding power button or simply remove the battery. Phone should be fine after turning it on again.
