Has anyone experienced the LG 6190 randomly shutting off?

I recently got an LG6190 fasttap phone and really like the features. The only problem that I have noticed is that the phone will sometimes turn off. Has anyone experienced the phone randomly shutting off on them? It hasn't happened while talking but has happened a few times when the phone is not in use.

Thanks, newcell :?

I too also have had this problem with my phone... I bought it about a week ago and it has shut off about 4 or 5 times with no reason. It usually happens when I have taken a picture with the flip closed or just after taking a picture with the flip open and then closing it. I plan on taking my phone back to telus and see what they say. But we all know that "they have never heard about this ever happening". Oh well I might just copy this forum and send it to one of the telus reps and see what they say...

And BTW, I wasn't the only one having the problems that I was having with LG3200. During the 6 months that I kept going back to the store, there were always 1 or 2 other customers there complaining about the same phone. I was only in that store for less than about 30 minutes so you can imagine how many customers go there in one whole day to complain.

Telus and LG are a couple of liars. I can't say anything about LG 6190 because I don't have that phone. I do have the LG3200. I can't believe that it's now 2005 and Telus is still saying that they haven't heard anything about LG3200 randomly shutting off. I got my phone in August 2004 and well into February of 2005, I was still bringing my phone to the store either for replacement or for repair. My phone, among other things that were wrong with it, kept randomly shutting off. Water damage was also one of the reasons a Telus sales rep told me was the cause. She even pointed out that she could tell that it's water damage because the strip on my battery is gray. I looked up new batteries and their strips were all grey!

Anyway, when the store finally sent in my replacement phone to be "refurbished" (after several "repairs" in the past), my phone worked well. I think it's probably a combination of hardware and software problems. During that (more or less) 6 months that I kept going back to the store, I also called and e-mailed (several times as well) Telus and LG about my problems. So Telus and LG saying this year that they've never heard anything like that is pure rubbish. If I had any other choice, I wouldn't be going with Telus at all. (At the time that I purchased the phone, Telus was the only cell phone provider in my area offering text messaging to phones outside Canada/US.)

I have had the problem with the LG 6190 shuting off and on randomly. My theory is that is get over loaded. Hapens alot when i'm sending apicture message or playing a game. THe Telus Rep also told me that they havent herd anything about it.

I have the same problem and Telus also says that they have never heard about this.

I had the same problem with my LG until I clear the Recent call log file. Just hit erase all. My phone does not shut off any more as long as I keep clearing the recent call log once and a while.

Koribaby,

I am just accepting that this is a quirk with the LG6190. I now wear the phone kind of on the side so it does not get compressed when I pick up something. Since I have been doing this it hasn't shut off on me.

My phone does that as well, it reall agrivates me. I took it to the verizon wireless store and they said that it was water damaged. There is no way that could of happened, they said they could look on the strip on the battery. I think its bogus and they want me to buy a new phone. I'm still trying to find out how true that really is.

Peter,

I found out how my phone shuts off. It is now in for repairs. It only happens when the phone gets compressed and the backlight is on. For example I have the phone in a leather case that is clipped to my belt. When I bend down and only when the phone flips open enough to have the backlight come on and then the phone is compressed will it shut off. I simulated this situation by opening and then closing the phone then squashing it between my hands. The phone shut off almost every time. Crazy isn't it. The telus rep did not believe me until I did it in front of him. He said that it could be a lose wire that connects from the keypad area to the earpiece area.

Hope that helps,
Newcell :D

Looks like this is a quirk with this phone. The phone went in for repairs but didn't realy find anything wrong. It only happens when the front plastic cover is on. The plastic cover must push on some keys to make it shut off. When the phone is not in the case and it is compressed it will not shut off. The connection was resoldered anyways but it did not help. The Telus rep even ordered in a genuine LG case but it also shuts off with the LG case. Looks like I will have to keep the phone in my pocket of clip it on the side so it does not get compressed.

Peter,

Looks like my theory is not holding true. My phone turned off today and it was fully charged. I phoned Telus and they said that they had no reports of this happening. I also phoned LG and they also said that they have not heard of any reports of this happening with the LG 6190.

Possibly to save battery time I mean, if your not gonna use it, may as well be off! lol and if it turns on well it might be cause somebody just tryed to call lol!

Peter,

I have kind of monitored my phone to see what might be causing the problem. It may appear to be happening at about the same "power" level as when I charge the battery. For example if I charge the battery with three bars left it begins to happen at three bars. same goes for two. This time I ran the batteries right down to the charge warning and will see what happens. Have you noticed this phenomenon. I wonder if LG has a batch of defective batteries or is there a firmware upgrade that might fix the problem. I will not know for a few days if there is a connection as it take a couple of days for me to run my battery down half way.
