7.4/10
Informr score
The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra currently has an Informr score of 7.4 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 7 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable, secure grip
  • Vivid screen
  • Great camera quality

What's bad

  • Non-replaceable battery
  • Limited on-board storage
  • Limited video playback support without additional apps

The T2 Ultra is Sony’s latest venture into mid-range phablet territory. With a 13 megapixel camera, quad-core processor and detailed 720p IPS display, the handset appears to offer plenty of performance for the price. Let’s see how the reviews line up.

One of the first things mentioned in nearly every review of the device is the size. Cramming a 6-inch display into a mobile requires a bit of finesse. However, Sony appears to have accomplished the feat well while still sticking with the sharp, angular Xperia design. Android Authority notes, “Even with the size, this mid-range Xperia will not strain your hand — or hands — too much.”

The phone features a plastic unibody design with a microSD port on the side. While some larger devices have had trouble pulling this off well, the T2 Ultra receives positive reviews in build quality from most reviewers. GSM Arena states, “The build quality is still top notch though, and while the slippery back may harm the handling, the matte sides offer enough grip.” The only review to make note of anything negative in the build quality was Android Authority, saying, “While the phone feels sturdy and well-made in general, the buttons feel cheap, as they wiggle and provide mushy feedback. This is especially evident with the camera button.”

While the display might not be the most powerful available, it offers a full 720p resolution and is powered by the Sony Bravia 2 engine. GSM Arena says, “The contrast and brightness of the screen are very nice, color reproduction is great too, all adding up to an excellent image quality screen.” However, both note that performance in direct sunlight might be difficult. However, the IPS display ensures that viewing angles are nice and wide for easier viewing.

The T2 Ultra runs Android 4.3 out of the box. GSM Arena was particularly impressed with the performance, noting, “The user interface is buttery smooth, there is no visible lag or long loading times.” Sony mentions release of a Android 4.4 update in the future. When this happens, performance will likely increase yet again. For a mid-range product, reviews seem to suggest it's more than capable of everyday tasks, multitasking, video playback and gaming.

Finally, the X2 features an upgraded camera from previous Xperia models. With 13MP resolution, a plethora of shooting modes, 1080p video capture and an LED flash, its fully capable of taking respectable photos. Both Android Authority and GSM Arena praised the camera stating that pictures had “plenty of detail” and that “overall the phone’s camera does a great job and is fun to use.”

While the size might be off-putting to some, its performance and build quality place its reviews firmly in top of the competition in the mid-range Android smartphone market.

With Sony faltering in areas that are generally considered its strong suit - camera and sound - the Xperia T2 Ultra Dual, priced at Rs. 24,990, is a difficult device to recommend. There is strong competition in this segment from the feature-rich Moto X and the Gionee Elife E7, with its great camera....

Sony has created an incredible mid-range phablet with the Xperia T2 Ultra and there’s just simply no other 6 inch phone in this price range that is as much value-for-money. If you’re on a tight budget and end up picking one up, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.

Sony's second phablet almost lands right on the money. More reasonably sized (and priced) than the Z Ultra, it has a good display, fantastic battery life, good multimedia capabilities and decent responsiveness, which doesn't leave many cons... The biggest problem we can see, beyond its intrinsic per...
